Clara slowly got onto her feet, ignoring the now demented smile on Jayden's face.
She snapped herown fingers, summoning fire to come rushing to her palms, and threw it.
The first one took him by surprise, but then he realised.
He dodged the second, and the third, and the fourth, and then created his ring of fire again.
Clara stared in horror as the black flames closed in to engulf her. But then she saw.
The boy, hiding behind a bench, terrified.
And she was suddenly filled with a new strength.
She didn't quite know what happened after that.
She saw a great flash of red and orange.
And then Jayden went down.
By instinct she rushed over to help him, but then stopped in her tracks.
Jayden climbed onto his feet, the grin wiped from his face.
He smoothed down his almost ninja-like outfit, dusting his black jeans and fixing the zip on his black hoodie.
"You think you've won? You have to catch me first."
He put on that sinister smile again.
And then leapt, high into the air, onto the roofs once again, dissolving almost seamlessly into the night.
"I won't let you get away that easily," Clara whispered under her breath, almost with a smile.
