A mumble from Marialena broke him free of his never-ending spiral. "Mari, what is it?" Moving up to put his face right next to hers, he waited, until she began to speak again, like the faintest breeze rolling through a copse of trees. "Before they left," she said a bit louder. "They..."
"Yes?"
"They said that they'll be back. I tried to stop them and that elf stabbed me." She coughed and he rummaged around without breaking his gaze away from her until his hand wrapped around a steel mug, filled to the brim with water. Handing it to her and watching her drink, he said, "well, we're lucky you're still with us, but it's not surprising. You always bested everyone else in hand-to-hand combat and fencing."
She chuckled, attempting to raise her head, though her attempt and her mirth were quickly cut off by a fit of coughing. The door to the room cracked open and Reynar, who had left momentarily, brought in a pewter pitcher of water, setting it on the end table. "Viktor, before he did, he said they need us and they'll be coming back for us. What does that mean?"
"I haven't the faintest idea Mari, but I know Reynar knows the answer and I aim to get it from him."
"When you do, I want to be the first to know," She finally raised her hand, raising a finger in front of his face as well. "Promise me."

"Fine, but you should rest. If they come back, we'll deal with them." As he turned to leave the room, she whispered, "I'll rest. I will, but Vik? Can you make sure Enialis is alright?'
When has she ever shown any sort of focus on his well-being? Usually, the most she says about Enialis is some sort of terrible joke about how tall he is or how the quiet ones are always the most dangerous. Oh...
