Deep in the heart of the floating island of Skyloft, sat Zelda in her bedroom pawing through the contents of a stout cardboard box. Her father, Gaepora, had gifted her the box yesterday while clearing out his home study. As the headmaster of the Knight Academy he found little need for a residential study when he spent too much time, frequently scolded by his own daughter, at the academy and very little time at home.207Please respect copyright.PENANAbrSVg6yEeC

Zelda lifted the lid from the box, a smog of dust attacked her lungs. She doubled over, coughing as she waved the particles away. It was clear to her that the box hasn't be touched for some time. Knowing her father, it was likely he stored it away for safe keeping and ultimately forgot about the contents. Once the dust settled, Zelda glanced back to the box, dropping the lid in her surprise.

Inside sat numerous charcoal sketches on discoloured parchment with odd trinkets scattered around that seemed out of place amongst the rest of the contents. Some of the pages were torn in places and some of the charcoal lines had faded over time.
Zelda shifted her body, taking a seat on the floor rather than on her folded knees and dove into the contents. She lifted out a handful of the sketches, pawing through them with care, each one was similar in the forefront subject but the backgrounds changed with each. The same woman stared back at her, someone with smiles, some stolen moments that time once forgot. After sieving through her handful, Zelda scooped up another bunch but these showed the same woman once more, except from the last image.
The final sketch was the same woman cradling a tiny baby in her arms. Zelda carefully spread the parchment page out on her floor and glanced over each one once more. The only conclusion she could draw was this woman was important to her father, and perhaps the child was to.
Zelda put a pale index finger to her lips and thought about her father and every person associated with him. Gaepora was both the Mayor of the floating island and the headmaster of the academy. There wasn't an soul dwelling upon the island that didn't know his name, and notably the most loved man in Skyloft. The question pressed heavy on her mind, for she was drawing a blank to any woman that matched the sketches. Zelda glanced over them once more. The woman in the photographs were beautiful, just like the Goddess Hylia, a natural beauty. Her hair was long, usually tied in a low ponytail with ribbons, just as Zelda styled her own blonde tresses but she couldn't determined the colour from the monochrome images. Her garments were out-of-fashion, resembling styles that was suitable almost fifteen or twenty years ago.

A woman father knew a decade or so ago, Zelda pondered to herself, tapping her index gently against her lips. But still her mind draw a blank.

Zelda returned to the box, hoping to find a clue amongst the trinkets, but to no avail. A short length of ribbon tied into a small bow with a parchment tag that was too faded to read. A ticket stub from a Skyloft festival from many moons ago, that had lost its colour. A cloth pouch with a velvet ring box inside, with a tarnish band cushioned within the fabric. These items stood out, but none of them gave any hint towards the woman in question.207Please respect copyright.PENANADqCDjamSQL

"Come in," she called, her sapphire orbs glued to the pages. She heard the door open, close then a pair of footsteps enter the room but still she didn't look up from the pages, yet the silence unnerved her.207Please respect copyright.PENANALQKpssyGCt

Zelda glanced up to see her friend, Link, standing before her. She smiled and greeted him, "Good morning, did you sleep well?" she asked, to which he replied with a single nod of his head and joined her on the floor.207Please respect copyright.PENANANC1xFjCy25

Link gazed at the parchment mass and raised an eyebrow at his companion but she missed his gesture as her eyes were immediately drawn back to her work. The pair were silent for a while, Link watched his companion deep in thought and left her to decipher the pages in her own time. It took her a while but it seemed Zelda had finally come to her own conclusion.207Please respect copyright.PENANAkQxv6kwgiT

Zelda slammed her hands on the ground, narrowing avoiding the parchment littering the floor, and startled her friend half to death. "It has to be..." she finally spoke, but her smile quickly faded and her sapphire orbs look like they were about to water. "It's my mother. Every drawing is of my mother," she stated flatly. Unfortunately her discovery had filled her with sadness rather than joy.207Please respect copyright.PENANA39okZ18myr

Link stretched out an arm to her, to which she graciously accepted his hand in hers. The dark cloud in her mind didn't seem to dwell too heavily now that he was by her side. Zelda had many questions surrounding these sketches, she assumed they must have been drawn by her father in his younger days, admiring the woman he loved. Somehow seeing this photographs made her feel connected to the woman she never knew.
