As I wait for my hair to dry, I tie up the laces on the boots that Katana gave me to borrow. I don't know what's on the agenda for today, but I hope were able to move onto the next step of our plan: getting the cure for Alexander.
We've been here way too long, and eventually if we expand our time here someone will find us and turn us in. Me and Katana have moved on from what we said in the woods, and that was proven last night. The thought of Katana and Nyx having sex is so beyond my mind I can't even put it together. I wonder if Alice knows about this? Maybe she didn't because she thought I was the threat, not Katana.
Once I'm done tying the laces, I throw my dirty clothes in my backpack. Before I'm able to braid up my wet hair, I hear a loud crash from the living room. It didn't sound like a random plate fell; it was a crash that indicates something is wrong.
My body freezes for a moment, unsure of what I should do. Then, as if the answer presented itself, a loud bang hits the wall, it sounded like bones colliding with brick. Yanking open the door; I sprint down the hall. My wet hair whacks all around me, sending tiny water droplets into my mouth. It doesn't even bother me once I take presence of what's in front of me.
Chaos.
Pictures that held such beauty and warmth are now torn from the wall to the ground, blood scatters around the floor to the wooden table seeping into the cracks. The once easy air that was breathable is now suffocating me from the inside out. Three large men stand in the room, weapons of every caliber hang around their waist, two surround Katana as the other one holds Kai to the wall. He thrashers under the guy's grip, but doesn't budge.
"What's going on!" I scream. Everyone's attention turns to me, all those eyes upon me makes my body cower into itself.
"Quinn! Get out of here, NOW!" Katana screams, she used my real name. That means. . .oh god we've been found out.
But how?
Katana takes a small knife from her back pocket and aims for the man with the red hair. He dodges her and falls against the wooden table, apples and pears thump on the ground. He grips Katana around the waist, as she wiggles from his grip her body turns and she stabs him in the shoulder. Crimson blood splatters everywhere as Katana releases the knife.
The other guy grabs onto Katana's legs and slings her to the table. A black small electrical box sits in his hand, I know exactly what that is-
"Don't!" I scream. But before the words register, long talons leave the black box and stick to Katana's back. One moment she was thrashing and now she's shaking. I could see saliva fizz out of her mouth as those black eyes roll back.
My body feels weak, I could throw up right now if my mouth would open up. I hold in my screams as it burns in my throat, trying to get let out.
Kai tries to run over to his sister, but he is later tased also. My eyes widen in horror, what could I do? How could I help them?
Katana's words play like a record in my head, "get out of here, NOW!" It would be wrong to leave them, but if I could possibly get the cure, and save them from where ever they'll be taken, all could be ok. Or I could stay here and try to save them, but my powers are on the fritz and I'm scared if I use them something will go horribly wrong.
Before I'm able to choose my decision, the guy that was stabbed by Katana walks over to me. An open wound in his shoulder oozes out dark blood, it looks like it doesn't even hurt him. I know it does by the way his jaw is grinding together.
My legs sprint down the hall, I could hear his big feet pounding against the ground. The breath rushes out of me as his hands wrap around my waist and throws me through the air into the wooden table. It felt like a millennia being in the air, my wet hair mattes against my face as my screams bury deep in my throat.
The pain was the harshest thing I've ever experienced. My side hits the corner of the table, piercing the middle of my ribs. I fall down like a rag doll on the ground, no sounds or grunts come out of me. My body is in so much pain that if I made even a sliver of a sound I might scream and never stop. As I peak my eyes open, Katana's battered face is in front of me, her eyes blink slowly as her mouth hangs open.
Is she dead?
I slide my hand across over to her, hot fire surges through her body into mine. She's hot like a volcano, but cold like Antarctica. "Katana?" I shake her hand weakly as the words squeeze out of me.
"I- I told you to get o-out of here." The words bite against the roof of her mouth.
"I tried. I really tried." No more words leave my mouth as my eyes faded away into darkness.
🌺🌺🌺🌺
Bright lights.
Blurring colors of red, green, orange and yellow cloud my vision. It's so beautiful, and warm. Loud booms fill my ears as the colors burst into the sky again and again and again. Fireworks. They're fireworks.
I'm alive, I survived. My body feels heavy, like someone tied weights to my body and threw me into the black sea. The only thing that moves is my head over to the black dirty wall. A hidden figure sits against it, I can't make out who it is.
I swallow, "Who are you?" My voice comes out raspy, I need water. Please, someone get me some water.
"It's me." The mystery person replies.
"Who's me?"
"Quinn, it's me Katana." She leaves from the darkness into the tangents of light that come inside of the cell. Oh god, we're in prison. How long have I been laying here? From the tightness of my bones, it's been a few hours.
That once beautiful and flawless face of hers is bruised and battered. Her eye is black a tiny cut on her bottom lip. More fireworks from outside explodes again, tiny hues of colors pan across her face, making those bruises more visible. Her clothes are ripped and buried in dirt; it hurts me so much to see her like this that I move my eyes away.
"Where's Kai?"
She takes a few seconds to answer me, so I ask my question again, but with more vibrato. "Where's Kai?"
Frustration laces her voice, "I don't know. When I woke up, you were still unconscious. I tried to wake you, but you didn't budge. Then I realized, he wasn't here. I screamed his name for hours and hours, hoping he would be near us, but he's not. I tried to ask the guards, but they ignored me." Her head hangs low as her hand rubs her shoulder.
"Oh god. Oh god." I bite my tongue as I lean off the ground. It's like my bones start connecting together at once, loud cracking noises echo the air. "We've- we have to get out of here?"
"Don't you think I've tried, there's no way out of the King's Prison?" Were in the castle, in the King of Nygaard's castle. He must be right above us, lying in bed or feasting on a King's dinner. So far away yet so close.
The question that I thought of a few hours ago rings in my head once again. How did they know we were here? No one besides Moena and Arno came in the house, we never went outside and stayed far away from the window. My mind works back to last night, before my eyes shut, I saw a shadow of footsteps leave our door. I shrugged it off as nothing, but maybe I should have gotten up and saw who it was. And Moena, at dinner last night she was a bit stiff, something was off. I thought it was the baby, but maybe-
"It was Moena." I blurt out.
"What?" Katana asks.
I further on, "Moena was the one to tell them that we were here. Think about it, at dinner she was tense and seemed like something was off, I thought it was about her baby, but maybe not."
"It wasn't Moena Quinn, she wouldn't do that to me were friends." Positivity radiated through her raspy voice.
"How? You haven't seen her in years." I snap.
"It wasn't her." She assured me, and I'm assuming herself.
"No, it was definitely her. Before everyone went to sleep, I saw footsteps leaving our door at night. Her and Arno went on a late walk last night, it wouldn't have been him, he's the one who brought us into Nygaard in the first place."
Her eyes narrow in on me, "It wasn't her, end of discussion." She turns her back to me, tiny red scars claw down her back.
"Are you ok?" I ask her. She doesn't answer, I take that as she's not in the mood to talk. So, I roll on my back once again, the cold cement floor bites into it. I take in the bright fireworks bursting over the city. Cheers and roars echo from outside. The colors suck me in, takes me away from this dark and eerie place.
The loud booms of the fireworks and hues of beautiful colors takes me back to the pack house, at a simpler time. Alexander and I had just begun dating, and this is around the time after the whole Sasha thing happened. Everything seemed ok, and everyone was safe.
I believe it was Skippers birthday, she wanted fireworks and to watch "The Shape of Water" with everyone. It was pretty awkward to watch since the main character was fingering herself in the bathtub, but Skipper didn't seem as weirded out about it as everyone else did.
Walking away from the living room, I stand over the kitchen counter with Col eating chocolate nuts. She, also, wanted to get away, but I don't think it was because of the reason I did. After eating almost 30 chocolate nuts, I call it quits once my stomach starts to feel quezzy.
"Are you all done?" asked Col. She pops another chocolate nut in her mouth.
"Yeah, if I eat anymore, I might burst out of my skirt, and I just got it." She laughs alongside me. That beautiful dirty blonde hair of her's is now surrounded around her face. Usually, she has it pinned up and her glasses are always on top of her head, but now there actually on her face. The lenses are so big that it makes her look like she has fish eyes, but I don't comment on it.
"Oh please, you're so small another chocolate nut can't hurt you. Trust me, when you become my age, a slice of bread sends you over the edge." She thinks I'm small? I guess I kind of am, depends on who I'm nearby. If I'm standing next to Alexander, he practically swallows me up, whereas next to a child-
"You look amazing, Mrs. Germani." She eyes me.
"What did I say about calling me Mrs. Germa-."
"I'm sorry. I mean Col. It's just weird to call an adult by their first name, especially my boyfriend's mother." A small smile paints her lips as she pats my hand that sits on the granite countertop.
"You'll get used to it." Our eyes pan over to the loud crowd in the living room. Skipper and Aora are cuddled up on the couch together, on the loveseat near the wall is Skipper and Aora's parents. By the looks on their face I could tell they were so bored. Also, Mr. Parbat is lightly snoring as his head rests on his wife's shoulders.
Alexander, Aren and Christian are off in the corner of the living room whispering to each other. Whatever Aren is saying must be funny because Christian and Alexander are chuckling. Skipper leans off of Aora and turns around to them, "Hey! You guys better be watching the movie. Especially you Christian."
His mouth forms an 'O'. "Why me?" He screeches.
"Because, you're my brother." She blows him a kiss and turns back to the movie. Aren shoves his shoulder as he rolls his eyes. Alexander just shakes his head at his best friends. My attention turns back to his mother, who has now put her hair up in a bun, and ate all the chocolate nuts.
"If you don't mind me asking, what was Alexander like as a child?" She's taken back by my question, but strums her finger over her chin thinking of a memory. Alexander and I haven't gotten to the point in our relationship where we've talked about each other's life. But now since I'm with this mother, maybe there's something I could learn about him.
"As a child Alexander was beautiful, and very caring too." She pulls out the chair at the counter and sits down, I follow right behind her. "I had a vivid memory of him- I believe he was 4 or five years old- anyway his father would take a run around the pack grounds for an hour, to stay in shape. When I woke up and went to check on him, he wasn't in his bed. When I tell you I almost had a panic attack, I run downstairs, and around this time I could actually run, when I came down all I could remember was laughing. Alexander's tiny chubby face was squished up against the glass door, waiting for his father." Her eyes gloss over as she tells the story.
To know that Alexander was a chubby kid growing up is a sight I want to see. She continues on saying, "And now, him and his father aren't that close anymore and it saddens me."
"I don't understand, why not?"
A sorrowful look comes on her face, I could see Alexander in her eyes. "Because of you."
"Me?" My voice comes out high pitched. I clear my throat, "How am I the reason father and son aren't close?" I honestly don't understand. Me and Alexander haven't been together long, and I barely know Mr. Germani. And when they're together, nothing seems off to me. But not everything is what it seems, God I've got to stop watching "Wizards of Waverly Place".
"When a man finds his mate, things start to shift. It's not your fault or anything, it's totally natural. You're in love and nothing matters but the person you're with. You're now his priority, the one thing he seeks to protect. It's natural. Xander was the same way with me, he was always at my side and hated to see me go. He'll never admit it." She chuckles.
"So, it's not a bad thing they're not close anymore?"
She shrugs her shoulder. "Oh, it's a sad thing, fathers and sons should always keep a close bond. But, it's a part of life kids drift away. But things started to change once Alexander begged him to put security around your house."
My brows furrow, confused by what she's saying. Security? "I don't know what you're talking about, what do you mean?"
"At the park? There was a guy that was spying on you guys and he wanted Xander to put security up to protect you."
This is all new to me, he never told me any of this. That a guy was stalking us, that he begged his father for security. I know we've just started dating, and everything is new, but after not telling me where he was those two weeks before homecoming, I thought he learned his lesson. Maybe he didn't. If I'm in danger, I'd like to know about it.
"I can tell from the look on your face you have no idea what I'm talking about. I'll let him tell you the rest." She pats my shoulder and walks down the hall, most likely to see what Mr. Germani is doing.
Oh, she's right. He's definitely going to tell me what the hell is going on here.
