“Come on, Andy. Inside you go.” I settled my best friend on his couch, and he fell over, already snoring. I headed back outside, locking the door as I left, and headed to my Civic.
Once I arrived at my apartment, I threw my hoodie into my closet and took a shower. Joshua’s roommate, River, was beautiful. When I asked for her phone number, it wasn’t about Joshua. Not at all. She was beautiful. Gray eyes, an apple-pear body shape, long brunette hair.
As I got out of the shower, my cell rang. I wrapped a towel around my waist, and answered my phone. “Hello?”
“Ange, it’s Lydia. You need to come into the office,” my boss said.
“Okay, when? I can be there in twenty.”
“Okay, that’s a fine time.” She hung up.
I hurried to change into loose jeans and a black tee. I brushed my hair, fed Vinny, my cat, and then left, heading to the police department. Once I got inside, out of the freezing cold, Lydia hurried up to me, shoving a case file into my hands.
“I’m putting you on this case with a couple other detectives. Detective Hart and Detective Byers,” she explained the case with me, then left.
I sat at my desk, reviewing the case. I spent a good minute there, then stood up and went to autopsy.
“Detective Cowel, how are you? I haven’t seen you in a while,” our pathologist said.
“Good, good. I just need the report for the latest case. The double homicide.”
“Oh, I already gave the report to Detective Byers. Are you both on the case?”
“Yeah, Byers and Hart and I are working on the same case. Anyway, nevermind. I’ll go get it from them,” I left, pushing the doors open and heading to Detective Byer’s desk.
Before I even rounded the corner to her desk, I heard laughing. Two women. “-he was so hot, I swear. He just picked up his friend like he weighed nothing. And Joshua, oh my God. He slung him over his shoulder and just tossed him on his bed.”
I knocked on the desk they were by, and they both looked over. River immediately blushed, turning a bright red. I chuckled, then looked over at Detective Byers. “I was wondering if I could get the autopsy report for that double homicide. I’m supposed to be working with you two.”
“Oh, yeah. Here. We went through it already, but go ahead,” Byers said and handed it to me.
“Okay, thanks. I’ll bring it back to you later.” I muttered and walked away.

River
“God he’s hot,” Max said, fanning herself and smirking at me.
“I can’t believe he heard all of that. Or at least some of it,” I muttered, embarrassed. “And since when was he a part of the case?”
“I don’t know, maybe Lydia put him on the case to help.”
“Obviously, numbnut. But-”
“Hey, River,” Danny’s voice said, right behind me.
Maxwell rolled her eyes. I turned around and leaned against the desk. “What do you want, Officer Darel?”
He smirked. “I’m still wondering about that date. Are we still on?”
I rolled my eyes. “I never said anything about any date besides no. So take a hint. I don’t date coworkers.”
“Too bad,” he said, and walked away frowning.
“He’s never going to stop, you know?” Maxwell said confidently.
“I know, but I’m not accepting a date from him,” I muttered.

An hour later, Angel arrived back at my desk, and dropped the file onto my desk. “Appears to me, the weapon was a crowbar.”
“Okay, yeah. Maxwell and I were thinking the same thing.” I continued typing on my computer.
He didn’t walk away. His gaze was still on me, so I stopped typing and looked up at him. He was breathtaking. He was wearing a black shirt, with loose faded jeans. Definitely dressed for comfort.
“How can I help you, Angel?” I asked.
“Is Joshua okay?” He asked.
“Yeah. He has to clean his vomit up, and I might just kick him out for throwing up on my damn carpet. Freaking broke the door before I left, too,” I sighed. I shared to0 much, but it’s fine.
“Damn. Well, if you do, I can help fix it again,” He offered.
“Maybe. It depends. I’m giving him the choice, clean his room and fix the door, or he’s gone. It’s simple. He has a deadline,” I explained. “If he doesn’t do what I need him to do, I’m kicking him out. And I might need your help with the door.”
“Well, that’s a good idea. I’m available almost every day. Just call me and I’ll come over.” He said, and I nodded. He looked as though he didn’t want to leave.
“Is there anything else?” I asked.
He leaned against my desk, and said. “Go on a date with me.”
I blushed. “I’m sorry but I don’t date co-workers. If you weren’t one, I would say yes.”
“Oh. Well, maybe after this case? I work in a different department, but this case is one my boss put me on.”
“Maybe,” I murmured.
“In the meantime, what are you working on right now?” He asked.
“The case. I’m trying to find out who the young woman is. I’m going through the missing reports right now.”
“Can I help?” He asked.
“Sure, here, just use this computer,” I turned the box computer to him, and then grabbed my own computer. “It has a picture of her. Just let it go through-”
“-until it has a match. I know. Thanks,” he interrupted me. I smiled, and we went through the missing reports.148Please respect copyright.PENANACvT46hKaqh
