I was laying on the couch one day, watching TV, my mom was in her rocking chair, when something strange happened. Of course it HAD to be strange. Can't even enjoy a peaceful afternoon, can I?
I was a mix of excitement and nervousness. Today was the day on Sofia the First Princess Sofia, would finally figure out that the royal sorcerer, Cedric, was indeed a villain. After ten years, Sofia was a grown-up. The eighteen-year-old in the purple gown with auburn hair and tiara ran down the steps of the castle and headed towards the barn. Something was chasing her.
It was her servants and even the knights. Even the king and queen and her brother and sister were there! Sofia headed towards the stables and tried to get her flying horse, Minimus, out. The cowardly thing usually made excuses so as to not fly, and since Sofia had the Amulet of Avalor, she could hear him.
"They want my amulet, Minimus!"
Ah, yes. The amulet. The whole reason the mind-controlled minions were attacking her. The reason for Cedric's upsurping. He did not have to mind-control everyone in the kingdom. Originally, he planned for just her, but, as usual, his plan backfired and his magic hit a servant instead. She had just turned to leave the room when he cast it, so she still did not know it was him. Yet. Now, he just had to wait.
"Climb on my back, princess!" cried the pegasus. He was scared, but he did not want the girl to get hurt.
They left through a hay loft just before the door broke down. A man in a dark purple robe with a yellow bow-tie and black and gray hair looked out the window of his tower and clenched his fist around his wand. It was Cedric. He also had a pencil that he had been using to write down potion experiments.
"No... Not now. I've come this far. She won't have it!"
He decided to use the bring-object-into-my-hand/patoozi spell, but at the same time, he crushed the pencil in his hand by accident.
"Patoozi! Pencil. Vein. Yuh! Eh, what? I've popped a vein. Ah! No, wait. I'm fine."
Both Cedric and Sofia were instantly transported to Pennsylvania. They were in our living room.
"Mr. Cedric, what's going on?"
Cedric tried to act innocent. "Oh. Um. Well. I was defending the castle from brainwashed people when one of my spells apparently went wrong. Yes! That's what happened."
"Well, your spell went wrong, alright," I said. "But you weren't fighting them. You MADE them that way."
"Why does this girl think YOU did anything Mr. Cedric?"
"Uh, well..."
My mom, for the time being, ran into the kitchen and came back with a fly swatter."GET BACK IN THE TV YOU TWO-BIT MAGICIAN!" she cried. She was absolutely hysterical and would not stop screaming.
She swatted Cedric in the face until Sofia stepped in front of her. "Wow," said Sofia. "That could've helped with Princess Ivy."
"Mooooom. Caaaalllllm. Dowwwwn." I said.
Mom relaxed somewhat. "Okay. I'm calm."
"So, what happened?" asked the princess. She looked deep into the sorcerer's earthen-brown eyes with her sea-blue ones, confused and longing for an answer.
For all his misdeeds, there were moments Cedric found himself wanting to forget the taking-over-the-kingdom thing and enjoy his close friendship with Sofia, even working for her if she ever took the throne. Now, he faced her having to tell the truth. There was no going back.
"If you don't tell her, I'LL tell her, Cedric," I threatened. "Everything."
Cedric faced the other direction, trying to summon up some courage instead of monsters, for once. Sofia gently placed a hand on his back. The sorcerer turned to see the worried face of not only his princess, but his only friend besides his pet raven. A look of not utter defeat, but regret covered his face. He took her hand in his own two and got ready for an explanation.
"Sofia... You've known me well enough for many years that I don't have very much confidence in my abilities. Some might say I've been using an outlet to gain pride. What's most frustrating is peoples' lack even more faith in my abilities than I do. Not only that, but being a sorcerer... It's just so wonderful! The way you can feel a wand's power. All the wonderful things you can do with it! Other positions would make me seem even more powerful."
"What are you trying to say?"
"Ever since you were a little girl...I've been trying to take over the kingdom."
Sofia backed up against the TV in shock. "W-why?"
A small, swirling, rainbow vortex came to life on the TV. Cedric knew that Sofia had activated a return way by accident and that their time in our world was going to end.
"I told you why. And now, I'm going to ask you something," Cedric got down on one knee and pulled the amulet out of his pocket. "Princess Sofia, if I may refer to you as Sofia and nothing else from this day forward, if you even deem me to be worthy to be in the same room as yourself... Will you do me the honor of becoming my bride?"
Before she could answer, the two were zapped back to their own, magical world.
"Good riddance, Cradle-robber!" yelled my mom.
"Now that we're here, I can whip up a ruby from a rock!" said Cedric. "Or maybe a diamond. What do you think would make a more impressive engagement ring? Princess Sofia?" he asked, looking around. "Princess Sofi-Ah, there you are-!-Uh? Oh..."
Cedric spotted Sofia backed up against the outside of the castle's walls. She seemed completely in shock.
"Sofia?" Cedric tried to say something, but he imagined nothing more could be said. He had betrayed one of his only friends, and now she knew. There was only one option left for him.
"Goodbye, Princess Sofia. I know you probably think of me as nothing but a bad, bad person, now, but I just wanted to say I've enjoyed our time together. Perhaps you could look past my mistakes and one day, forgive me."
He waved his wand and said, "Brains are best left unwashed and dirty so knowledge can clutter in minds in a matter most sturdy!" Everyone in the castle went back to normal and slowly began to try to remember what it was they were doing, with no luck, of course.
"Good bye..." Cedric said one, final time. He turned to go.
"Do you love me?"
Cedric did not dare look back, but allowed the smallest amounts of hope to rise in him. "As a friend...or something more?"
"Something more."
Cedric found his own footsteps walking alone as if by themselves. "Does it matter? Don't you hate me?!"
"How could I hate you? I love you, too!"
Cedric found the heat in his heart rising up, as if it would burst from emotion. He ran over to Sofia's side and kissed her deeply. Still, she pushed him away.
"I know that you love me. I know that I love you. I know that from all the time we've spent together. But I just don't know if I can trust you. 'Where there is no trust there is no love'! What if you want to marry me to take over the kingdom?"
"I suppose I can understand that, but Sofia, you forget your sister, Princess Amber, is next in line, since she is the eldest."
"But if I marry before Dad retires, I'LL take the throne."
"Then we'll wait until your father retires! If you can wait that long, princess."
"I can wait. Can you?"
"Anything to prove my loyalty to you...Sofia."
"Thank you...Cedric."
They kissed again, this time, Sofia not turning him down and walked hand-in-hand to the castle, hardly taking a second away from each other's eyes. They only released each other's grasps when they entered inside. They discussed their relationship in Cedric's tower. They kept it secret, at first, and eventually, Sofia let Cedric try on the amulet by wrapping it around his arm like a bracelet whenever he wanted to speak to his pet, Wormwood. Sofia's trust and love in Cedric grew immensely over the years, and eventually, they both were happily married BEFORE King Roland's retirement, making Sofia, Sofia the First, High Queen, and Cedric, the Sensational Sorcerer, High King of Enchancia.
