INT. BIRD ROOM - DAY
The birds are in the bird room, where four cages sit on one side of the room. The largest cage is shaped like a horizontal rectangle, the second cage is square-shaped with a rounded top, the third cage is a taller rectangle with a playstand consisting of a ladder and two bowls with water and food, and the fourth cage is Angie's cage, which is shaped like a long house. Yellow light slowly shines onto the stage to signal a new day.
MIKA
(hangs upside down from the side of the cage)
You should try to find what makes you special in our flock! Everyone here is different! I can hang upside down!
ANGIE
I can try!
Angie flies onto wooden picture frames on another wall.
MIKA
Yes, that's it! Now, turn around and use your feet strength to keep you on the picture frame, lean downward towards us, and use your wings to help.
Angie attempts to follow MIKA's instructions but falls.
ANGIE
I-I can't! My wings are too weak!
PEAR
Yeah, Mika! Be more considerate of her past next time.
MIKA
I'm sorry, I just wanted to give her an idea of how to find her special ability in our flock.
PEAR
How about you try singing, uh, budgie style?
Pear sings "Happy Birthday" by whistling. Bluey bites Pear off to the side next to Mika.
BLUEY
Or try talking! Have you ever heard your previous owners talk a lot near you or to you? Do they repeat any phrases or words a lot? Maybe learn your name?
ANGIE
Um...I had a different name.
BLUEY
What?! What was your old name then?
ANGIE
I-I forgot.
PEAR
How can you forget your own name? Bluey even taught me how to say my name in a cute way: Bear Bear!
MIKA
Pear, I think you should stop making her feel bad. She had a different past than us.
ANGIE
It's okay, don't worry about it. I forgot my own name because I chose to. I wanted a fresh start at a new house with more fluffy buddies, but having my old name here haunts me.
BLUEY
Well, you look like an Angie, so I'm sure it's a good fit for you. I came up with the name by the way. Elizabeth took my idea because she wanted me to have a girlfriend.
ANGIE
W-what? You can talk to humans? And of course I'll be your girlfriend! Maybe you can teach me some things!
BLUEY
Yes! Right now, we're speaking in bird language because it's a commonality we all have to communicate, but if you need to say anything to our owners, just tell me so that I can transfer the message.
ANGIE
Wow, you must be having the time of your life the entire time while I was stuck in a cage.
BLUEY
I was stuck in a cage for the first three weeks, but to be honest, I think Elizabeth was more scared of me than I was scared of her. Anyway, you can chirp and make some tunes, right?
ANGIE
I mean, my previous owners did play the piano everyday, so I think I remember some things.
Angie chirps loudly with a bubbly touch and sings by going between two high notes quickly.
BLUEY
You know what, Angie? I think you'll be a great addition to our flock.
PEAR
Were you doubting your girlfriend?
BLUEY
No, no, no! I was just emphasizing that she will.
MIKA
I agree with her being a great addition! Now, there's a budgie and a cockatiel singer!
BLUEY
Yep! I'm the rapper, Pear is the lead singer and dancer, Angie is the melody, something we've been missing, and Mika is acrobat!
ANGIE
Wow, wait. Pear can dance?
PEAR
Why yes I can! I'm a male cockatiel after all!
Pear hops with wings spread out like a heart when looked at from my behind and steps back in a curtsy.
ANGIE
I may not be able to do those fancy moves, but I can try something.
Angie bobs her head quicker than Bluey can.
BLUEY
I'm impressed! The speed is something! I think that you can communicate with humans with that ability.
ANGIE
I always do that move when my previous owners ask me something like "Do you want millet?", and I agree or want it.
BLUEY
That's exactly what I'm talking about! I'm a pro at saying "no", so we'd make a great team!
