The Haunted House

The TV screen flickered as the words "The End" in a blood red color, I started to turn off the TV until it said "Haunted house near Green Bridge community, who dares enter it" just then thunder struck near my house, scaring me half to death. I started researching this so-called ‘Haunted House’, I clicked a link, and... it said that whoever went in never came out. I tried to research more about this haunted house, and somehow I found a picture of it. In the picture, there was a blood-redsky and the haunted house looked very creepy, vines were ever-growing over it. Wait… I looked closer and I saw a black figure looking through the window.
I ate breakfast and rushed to school, eager to tell my friends about the haunted house. Well, that is until Ms.Baker had to start the science lesson, but at least she was funnier than the other teachers. While I was transitioning to math we had to wait in line, so I took this chance to tell Hiabel about this haunted house.
“Hey Hiabel,” I called out to her. “So you know how you’re always trying to scare me,” I said.
“Yeah, so?” she asked
“Well I saw this haunted house on TV…so are you ok with going?” I asked, eager to go there.
“Fine,” she rolled her eyes “but,” she continued “you have to get about let’s see, um, 2 more people,”
“Ok!” I said excited to go there as Mr.Kane (the funny teacher) led us into the room.
At lunch, I started asking Nethra if she wanted to come, and she easily accepted going, but Supriya…Well let’s just say she wasn’t the easiest to convince, in about an hour or two of begging her to join me, Nethra, and Hiabel she finally said yes.
“Hey, guys!” I said catching up with Nethra and Hiabel. “So where are we meeting up?” I asked them.
“My house is ok, you know because my parents are very big sleepers, ask Nethra and Supriya,” she answered. Once I asked them they immediately were ok with it.
When it was night time all of us gathered up at Hiabel’s house.
“Did you all get the things we need?” I asked,
“Yup,” everyone but Nethra replied. I turned around and said “Nethra Jammula,” I stared at her angrily.
“Ok, so I might’ve forgotten to bring some snacks but I brought this for you,” she held out a bag of funions, they’re a type of chips I love.
“You’re forgiven,” I told her. She did a happy dance around the room. “Ok,” I said devouring the chips, “let’s head to the haunted house, it’s a quick walk,”.
We arrived at the haunted house at around midnight. The sky above was cloudless, yet no moon or stars shone down on us. The house loomed in the dark, even more menacing in real life, its windows empty, watching eyes.
“Aaaaahhhhh!” Nethra screamed. I turned around as quickly as the Flash. “Never mind, it was a squirrel.”
“Nethra, don’t be scared of a little thing,” Isabel said. But her voice trembled. Even she was scared, like what’s so scary about this place?
As we entered the dark corridor of the haunted house Slam!!!! the door shut close behind us. Just then Supriya was dragged across the room into some tiny hole.
“Supriya!” I screamed, lunging for her hands. Ow! I fell face-first into the floor. My friends helped me up.
“We’ve got to help her,” Nethra said. I signaled for them to follow. Once we entered the tiny room all of us turned our flashlights on.
“Ow!” Hiabel said, tripping over something. I turned around and pointed my flashlight to where she tripped, I covered my mouth. It was one of the bodies of the family that was murdered here.
We examined the body, our flashlights trembling in our hands. The face was twisted in terror, eyes wide open as if frozen in the moment of their death. Dried blood stained the floor beneath them, leading in a long, thin trail deeper into the house. As I shined my light on the wall, I saw something scratched into the wood—messy, desperate words:
"We couldn’t escape... it's watching us"
I started moving forward, Nethra and Hiabel following me. As we reached the end I saw Supriya tied up to a chair, we tried our best to untie her but it was the Palomar knot, it’s basically the strongest knot in the world. Luckily, I had scissors in my pocket.
“Why do you always have scissors in your pocket?” Hiabel asked curiously once I cut the knot. I shrugged, suddenly a dog charged at me. I realized that it was a Pit Bull, I was lucky and researched about them once and because of that I know all of their weaknesses. Just in time, I took a double-sided pencil out and stabbed it in the leg. It couldn’t move because it’s prone to leg injuries.
Just then a dark figure circled us, leaving traces of blood behind.
“W-w-what was that?” Supriya asked.
Suddenly, everything went black. Just then Hiabel, Supriya, and Nethra’s faces surrounded me. They looked normal until they smiled. The smile couldn’t go any further so they took their fingers and tore through their skin, making a smile. Blood started coming from somewhere near me, making a puddle of it on the ground or it was just red paint. As I turned around Hiabel’s face came so close to me that I could feel her breathing against me. In my mind, I knew it was not real, but if it was in my mind I could get it out right? Somehow I had matches in my bag, as I tried to light the matches Nethra pounced on me. Luckily I lit it just in time and threw it into Nethra’s smile, as she got lit on fire everyone else did too. In a minute or so, I got teleported back to all my friends.
“Chaithra, what are you doing soaked in blood?” Supriya asked.
“Well, um… I might’ve murdered some clones of you guys but that’s all, don't ask any more questions, you don’t wanna know,” I said “All I want to do right now is go home,”.
“Agreed,” everyone stated.
“But, how are we gonna get out?” Isabel asked.
“Honestly, I have absolutely no idea,” I admitted. Everyone glared at me as I started lowering my head.”Wait!” I gasped, “What if we give up Nethra so all of us can get out!”
“Me? Why me?” Nethra begged.
“I mean, Nethra does get scared easily so I guess we could give her up,” Hiabel replied.
“Hiabel, I was just joking,” I said with a glare.
“Oh, yeah I was also totally just kidding,” Hiabel agreed
“Ok, guys we’re getting off topic and Hiabel is being sus,” Supriya cut in. Everyone looked at Hiabel suspiciously.
“Let’s just start making up a plan, also what were you guys doing while I was gone?” Suddenly it happened all over again.
“You think you could escape us, don't you?” a deep voice laughed.
“No, NO!!!” suddenly everything turned normal again, Hiabel was holding my hand repeating my name over and over again. “Hiabel, you ok?” I asked her.
“Finally! you were in a trance, almost being delusional,” she explained.
“Ok, for real now, we HAVE to escape,” I uttered, “Follow me, we need to retrace our steps.” We stepped into the elevator and I hit floor one, which took us to a hallway.
“This place wasn’t where we were before,” Supriya informed “Let’s turn back”. Suddenly the elevator doors shut behind us, I banged on the door again and again.
“It’s not working, we’re trapped,” I warned. We decided to search all the doors, until we found out that it was no use. It went on endlessly. We drew x’s on the doors we went in but every one of them just took us to the same hallway that we drew x’s on. I realized it was a puzzle “OWWWWWWWWW!” I hissed at Nethra for teleporting onto me.
“Sorry,” she apologized
“I figured it out, you know how in every room there’s a pressure plate, all we have to do is step on all of them,” I told her.
“I’ll tell the others,” she said. In an instant, she came back with them. “I already told them both about it,” she informed me.
“Ok, so who’ll take which door? We’re based on a timer” I told them. After we all chose our doors I started the timer and yelled, “GO!”. Just a second after we were finished we got teleported outside of the haunted house.
“We finally got out!” Nethra beamed.
“We did, but we need to get far far away from this haunted house,” I protested.
“Agreed,” everybody said. That’s when I saw the black figure again staring at all of us.
See you," I sighed, leaving them behind. Once I got home, I grabbed a drink of water, trying to shake the eerie feeling. As I drank, I glanced out the window—and froze. They were there—Hiabel, Nethra, and Supriya—standing in the dark.
Their faces were twisted into unnatural, stretched smiles, too wide, like their skin was tearing. Blood dripped from their lips, and their eyes were hollow, almost like black pits staring straight at me. My breath caught in my throat as they pressed their hands against the window, their fingers bloody, leaving streaks on the glass. Then, they whispered, "Join us..."
The glass cracked. I ran—but their laughter followed me EVERYWHERE…
