When I woke up the next morning, at first, I couldn't remember where I was. For a second, I thought that I was back home in the United States and I was waking up in my classmate's room, but then when I sat up in bed and looked around my room, I realized that i'm not back home and i'm not waking up in my bed. I thought yesterday was a dream when I came to London, but once I pushed the covers off of me, jumped out of bed and walked over to my window to peer out, I remember that this isn't a dream. This is reality. I'm actually in London, England, living with my rich grandparents.
I let out a soft sigh then closed my eyes and nodded. I'm not sure what i'm doing, but I guess i'm just trying to see if i'm still dreaming because you know how sometimes dreams feel like reality? Though, I was suddenly broken out of my thoughts when I heard my grandma calling for me from the other side of my bedroom door.
"Asher, sweetie, come down and eat breakfast before we head out." She said then I listened to her walk away from the door.
I slowly opened up my eyes then I turned away from the window and walked over to my bedroom door. I opened up my door and stepped out of the bedroom then I looked down the hallways. I started to make my way downstairs as I looked around the house.
Yup. I'm definitely in my grandparent's house.
I made my way into my grandparent's kitchen which looked really homey. There were paintings and family pictures that were hung on the walls and right in the middle was a small kitchen table where you sit at and eat. At first, I thought it was a little weird to have a table in the kitchen when they have a dining room table to sit at.
"Why is there a table in here?" I asked as I stood in front of the table.
My grandpa was sitting on the opposite side of the table, drinking his coffee and reading the paper. My grandma was busy making breakfast at the stove.
"Because it's where we eat at. The dining room table is for guests and the like. Now sit down dear so you can eat your food." She said.
I nodded then sat down in the chair next to my grandpa. I quietly watched him drink his coffee and read the newspaper before he realized that I was watching him. He set his newspaper down and stared at me then he smiled.
"Interested?" He asked.
I blinked my eyes, not realizing that I was staring until now.
"Oh. Sorry. I just...You were reading...and.." I trailed off.
My grandpa lightly chuckled. "I know that this day and age, everybody is reading from the internet, but I still prefer the good old fashioned newspaper. Besides, the internet isn't good for my eyes." He said.
I nodded then realized that my grandpa is wearing glasses. I'm not sure if they're reading glasses or if they're prescribed to him. I have so many questions to ask my grandparents about them since this is my first time seeing them in years, but I don't want to overwhelm them just like how I don't want to feel overwhelmed if they started asking me a bunch of questions so I decided to keep my mouth shut and let my grandpa go back to his reading while my grandma fixed me breakfast.
"Here you go, Ashy. Eat up." Grandma said as she walked over to me with a plate of food and orange juice.
I watched as she set the plate and glass down in front of me before she walked over to the sink to wash dishes. I looked down at the food and briefly observed it. The plate consisted of sausage, bacon, grilled tomatoes, eggs and buttered toast. I'm not sure why, but part of me feels a bit relieved and a bit disappointed that i'm eating an American breakfast. I guess I kinda had hoped to be eating something different. Something English related. Though, I can't complain. At least it's better than eating simple cereal. I'm not really a fan of eating just cold cereal. I like to eat something that will warm my belly and keep me energized throughout the day.
So, I picked up my fork and started to take bites out of my food.
Mm~ Even if this is just a normal American breakfast, grandma knows how to make it taste really good.
As I was eating, grandma finished up the dishes and brought over a plate of breakfast for grandpa before sitting down in the chair across from me, holding a cup of coffee. She watched me eat for a minute before speaking up.
"Are you anxious about seeing your new school?" She asked me.
I looked up from my breakfast and nodded at my grandma. I swallowed my food then picked up my glass of orange juice and took a sip before speaking.
"Yeah. I am. I know it's going to be really different from the schools back home." I said.
My grandma nodded. "Indeed it will. I looked into it before you arrived here and it seems like a decent school. I haven't seen it myself yet, but I think you will like it." She said then smiled.
I smiled back then went back to eating, hoping that I will like the school too. Though, there was still a big question lingering in my head. I ponder the thought of asking it for a minute before deciding that I will ask.
"Is the school....rich?"
At first, grandma looked a bit surprised by my question. "Rich? What do you mean?" She asked.
"Rich like...every student at the school has money." I said.
My grandma stared at me, thinking for a second before she shrugged.
"I have no idea, dear. I know that the school is prestigious and well known. I heard that the Headmaster that is in charge of the school is well known and the teachers that teach there are supposed to be top notch." She explained.
I mentally groaned. Just from hearing that little tidbit, it's obvious that the school i'm enrolling into is a snooty and rich place full of snooty and rich students. Eventually, I nodded then went back to eating.
"Make sure you hurry up and eat. We have to leave soon. I'm going to go ahead and put on my clothes." Grandma said then she stood up from the table and cleaned up before walking out of the kitchen.
"I better get ready too." Grandpa said as he stood up also and cleaned up his area before leaving me in the kitchen.
I watched as my grandparents left me then I looked down at my food and sighed before taking bites out of it again. I haven't even see the school yet, but I already know i'm not gonna like it much.
