Before
The guard grabbed the girl by her delicate wrist and barked orders to the other men who had come with him. Her father yelled for his daughter to be released, but they chained him in response. Another guard then continued to clamp a smaller pair of chains onto the girl’s wrists and ankles before doing the same with her younger sister.
After a few silent moments, the guard spoke.
“It is neither yours nor mine’s place to speak of her Majesty’s business,” There was a disgusted gleam to his murky eyes.
The girls were then pulled out of their modest yet crumbling cottage and were each lifted roughly onto horses while their father walked behind them, being pulled along by a rope held by one of the men.
They soon reached the Black Castle, every stone block slick and piceous, and the fosse, putrid smelling. It certainly lived up to its name. As they were taken through the wide halls and through a large and heavy oak door, the girls saw a lifeless woman lying on the flagstone floor. The younger of the girls shivered and grabbed her sister’s hand. The older girl simply squeezed it gently and looked ahead as they entered the throne room where the Queen waited for them.
She sat there in her black velvet throne with her eyes on the vulgar man on his knees before her. His children were covered in dirt, their hair a mess of drab sunshine and pale gold. Her lips lifted into a smirk. After all the years of searching and spilled blood, she was finally going to get what she had been looking for.
She spoke, voice silky and dripping of hidden cunningness, “I’m sure you are all confused as to why you are here,”
“What do you want?” The filthy man yelled, and the guards all turn their swords to him.
“It’s quite simple really. I need something of yours.”
“Then why don’t you just take it!”
“I like to think of myself as a rather fair and gracious queen, so I thought we could make a trade.” She looked at him, face feigning innocence. The man’s eyes narrowed, but he did not speak. “Very well, I shall tell you what I shall give you. Your wife is deceased, passed away seven months ago. You miss her, you want to see her again, and I can make that possible. Only, if you give me what I need. Do we have a deal?”
“No creature on this forsaken earth has the power to bring back the lost.”
“Ah, but of course. However, there is a way; a most logical and realistic way.” She said slyly.
The man’s eyes betrayed his curiosity, his eagerness, his painfully obvious hope.
“Good.” Her smirk fell back into place once again. “Give me your daughters.” His face dropped, now consumed with shock, hatred, and helplessness.
“No! Anything but my little ones, please!”
“It is too late and the deal has been made you foolish coward.” She flicked her head and the girls were dragged away from their father, both too scared to make any sound.
She sneered as the father desperately tried to crawl to her feet, still begging. “I said it was too late!” She snapped. Regaining some of her composure she said “Despite all, I will keep my end of the deal. Aaron, it is time that we reunite this man with his wife.”
An armored boy that stood beside the queen nodded and walked behind the girls’ whimpering father. Aaron raised his hand high before he swiftly slashed a glinting axe across the man’s neck.
The girls screamed as they were yanked into an empty corridor. They cried for the men to let them go, but their voices hushed when they saw their father through the medial crack in the doorway they had just walked through. A pale, metal clad boy had placed himself at the back of their father. While he beseeched and sobbed, they witnessed the boy pull out an axe, the blade reflecting a sliver of sunlight from the windows. The younger sister made to warn her father, but as she formed the words, a calloused hand roughly placed itself over her mouth. Then the door swung shut, but not before they saw the swing of the axe cutting into their father. His pleading cut short with a painful thud. 935Please respect copyright.PENANAacBoTz1Xko
