Ophelia was on her way to the nearest café which was right below the apartment that she shares with Dreida, her childhood friend and now roommate. Step by step, she went down spiral stairs with her guide dog, Malo, humming to herself the floor she was on. Joy filled her small frame as she touched the smooth handrail. Ophelia arrived on the ground level, which directly open to the coffee shop. She inhales the air of fresh morning coffee as a pleasant feeling filled her whole body, the young woman smiled. She let Malo guide her in line for a cozy drink.
In front of her, Ophelia recognizes a man silhouette but before she could do anything, she bumped into him and fell on her behind. A sharp pain began hurting Ophelia's eyes as she blinked trying to reduce the pain. Flickering her eyelid, light infiltrated her pupil as if she just opened the gate to a dark room and the light reflected off the area around her. Ophelia saw another aspect of life other than the dark world she has been living in since the incident, 12 years ago.
The man captivated Ophelia's eyes as he reaches out for her with his slender hand like a charming prince in a fairytale saving his princess from a tiny fall. His untamed aureate hair shined under the new light even if dust pilled upon it. His rather long curls have not been cut for ages and it framed his squarish face so well defined. His eyes were a shade of blue she had never seen before, she was blind--- so that's self-explanatory. Under that beautiful blue, the dark circle was fairly noticeable: reminding Ophelia of her freezing lips slightly touch a spoonful of boiling soup. The skin of the lanky man had a slight tan like the weak trace of sunlight she could still see with her damaged eyes after the healing. He wore a dark lightweight jacket with his right hand in his pocket and jeans complemented his outfit, also black like blocking light from a room. White sneakers popped out with all the dark-toned clothes he wore. His overall look was somewhat neglected as if he threw on him the first thing he found in his small closet.
"Are you all right? I'm sorry, I knocked you over." said the blonde like he didn't even mean it and with a smile in his eyes.
"Oh don't worry, it didn't hurt at all." grinned Ophelia and taking the young man's offer.
As she rose, letters appeared on her left arms and something was written on it. It noted, 'Sinon is an angel'. She had a cloudy vision looking at those letters. 'Did I get a tattoo last night? I wasn't even drinking, wine is disgusting.' she thought. Or maybe getting her vision back after all these years messed up her bain. A wave of uneasy, uncomfortable, disturbing, nervous, insecure, anxious sentiment filled her mind.
"Hey! Can you see this thing on my arm?!" she pointed her left arm where the phrase decided to install itself trying to prove she was not insane." You see it right! ".
"Um... Miss? Sorry but I don't see anything, just your arm." said the man she was talking to in a serene tone."But I can help you with it." smirked the man giving her a note from his right pocket with an address.
She glanced at the piece of paper, ripped from a notebook and seem fresh."I presume this is your house? Why are you giving me this?!" said Ophelia still in a state of panic.
"Meet me at 10 o'clock, this address." he said while exiting the café. He turned his head at Ophelia's direction, " By the way, the name's Sinon. "
"So... his name is Sinon. Hold up!--- His name is Sinon!" she stared at the word Sinon on her arm as she pauses her mind. ' Sinon is an angel? Angel's are not real though, it's true my mother used to tell her tails about angels watching over the human realm, but those were all legends. Right? ' she thought.
'Well, for now, let's get coffee, maybe ill wake me up' told herself, Ophelia, optimistic she was in a dream. She took Malo seeking his harness, but it was replaced by a leash. She never leashed Malo or even bought that leash for him. That is certainly odd. As she grabbed the rope, she enjoyed the pleasant feeling of touching a new fabric. Her dog was a golden retriever but she never thought that he would be gold.
Standing in line, Ophelia was amazed at all the different range of colour life offered her. She looked around and saw warm, cold, vibrant, dark colours. She wonders how can people not overload after collecting so much data just by looking at something? Is it really impressive! Now she can view everything, which was overwhelming for her. She could almost taste, smell and hear the colours, she wonders if it was normal.
It didn't take long before it was Ophelia's turn to order her drink.
"The usual?" asked Lucia, the cashier that works there ever since Ophelia moved into the building.
"Yup" affirmed Ophelia and peeked at her arms. New development! Now there is a new wording on her 'Lucia as a crush on Dreida'. "Lucia, do you have a crush on Dreida?" whispered Ophelia at Lucas while he is making the pumpkin spice latte.
"Hee? What! how did you know!? Was it that obvious?! oh god! I hope she doesn't know..." answered Lucia still pouring the milk in the cup that Ophelia brought.
"LUCIA! Stop whining and pay attention to what you're doing!" Screamed his superior across the counter.
"YES, MAM! " Shouted Lucia while he rose the cup of milk swiftly." Sorry 'bout that, your latte may have a bit more milk." apologized Lucia giving Ophelia the yummy expresso and milk drink that tastes like pumpkin, cinnamon, clove and the breeze of autumn even though its spring.
"No worry, I like milk." mentioned Ophelia, staring at her cup of coffee. " what is the colour of that?" Ophelia pointed at her drink.
"Um... it's pretty close to cadmium orange I guess," answered Lucia, an expert in colours, looking at the cup. "Okay, next order please".
'What?! Lucia was not surprised that I could see it?' thought Ophelia while going to sit on her regular spot, outside the café, near the left side window.
The coffee shop had a huge sign right above the automatic glass door which read 'Sunny Cup' with the image of a cup with a half sun inside it, on the side of the 'Sunny Cup'. At night, Dreida would tell her that the logo would light up like a real sunset. Ophelia would try to imagine it in her mind with the little memories of the actual object she still had in her 9-year-old memories. The entrance was right in the middle of the building so the window on the side could show the inside of the shop. Inside the café, it was like every typical coffee shop with a slight touch of white and shades of yellow added to it. But the rest of the building was pretty vintage and old, some renovation was made for the building so it could still stand in one piece but its overall styles reminded her of the smell of old pages from a book that was not opened for a long time.
Ophelia enjoyed her cup of coffee right next to her dog, Malo, eating his stars treats. While taking some sip, she thought of what happened this morning. She knew she had powers, the capacity of seeing other's secrets. Lucas did have a crush on Dreida, and nobody knew from his reaction. In addition, Sinon is supposedly an angel, he would not tell someone that. Ophelia remembers her mother telling her story of the angels having the power to give abilities. So it may be possible it is Sinon that gave her this power. Maybe he realized that her clever brain could figure it out and sent Ophelia an invitation. "Or, it could be a date " blushes Ophelia, " Nah, he is too messy for me," said Ophelia, drinking the last drop of her latte.
Ophelia placed her black cup in her bag and went inside the shop. She opened the back door to which she first arrived and begun to climb the 4 story building. The stairs where pretty old, step made of white marble and the handrail was black painted metal. The space between the wall and support was pretty small, but enough so two people could fit in. On each floor, the walls were painted in a beige colour, not changed since the inauguration, which was part of the charm. All of the doors apartment was in a navy blue, they recently changed it alongside the floors, which was now a carpet in a brownish almost black tone.
By each step, Ophelia rediscovered her life, with her new perception. She reached the fourth floor, the highest point, and walked in the badly lighted corridor. The aisle was very short since only two apartments were located on this floor. '420' her number apartment had no longer the brailed she asked to implement. The world did change since her collision with Sinon as if she was never blind in the first place.
She reached for her keys in her bag and unlocked her flat. Ophelia turned the doorknob and opened her door apartment.
