The day she fell, was the day I realized I really loved her.
I was a fool to have not seen the fragile bond between us.
When she died, my heart shattered into a million pieces, but which path do I go down now?
I couldn't save her in time.
I walked through the gates of the cemetery and looked around until I saw her gravestone.
I felt tears pooling out of my eyes as I gazed at all the cold and darkened stones until I came across hers.
It read: IN LOVING MEMORY OF AERA YI. BELOVED DAUGHTER AND GRANDDAUGHTER.
"Aera, I'm so sorry.", he said grievously. "I wish I could've saved you in time."
"I'm sorry I left you in the dark, I'm sorry I didn't comfort you when you needed it most."
"I'm so sorry!!"
I sunk my knees on to the ground and cried for what would be the very last time. I missed her so much, even though I pushed her away.
She was the love of my life and I let her life crumble in my hands.
When she took her very last breath in that hospital, I should've been there with her.
Let her know that it was going to be okay.
But, I just watched from afar.
Left her there to die.
And when she needed help with her schooling, I didn't help her at all.
When she was going through difficult times with her family, I wasn't there to support her with her life at all.
And even though I was the popular kid, I still ignored her at school.
She was so kind and caring, such as when she helped clean my wound when I had a injury, and I didn't even thank her, I just complained.
I love her so much. Nothing could take my love for her away.
"Hi, I'm Aera, what's your name?", she asked in a curious manner. "You don't need to know who I am.", Sungjin said, irritated.
"Well, anyway, I fixed up your wound, it may take some time to-." She was interrupted when Sungjin tried to walk from her but couldn't.
"Hey, you're not used to walking like that.", she yelled to him, unaware that he wasn't listening to a word she was saying.
'Hey, come back!', she said as she chased him through the busy hallways, but slipped on a banana peel and fell head-first on the ground.
If only I could turn back time, so I could hold her in my arms and tell her it's going to be okay. But, I can't. And I'm so sorry, for not giving her a chance.
'Aera.' 'If only you had more time, I could've realized that fate put us together for a reason. And now, I know that reason.'
'You can still have her in your life.', a voice whispered to him. 'For a price.'
'I'll do anything, just please, give me another chance to be with her again.' Sungjin closed his eyes tightly and pleaded.
'The pain she felt during her lifetime is now the pain you have to endure. For the rest of your life.'
'What do you say, Sungjin?'
'Are you ready for a second chance at love?'
Sungjin inhaled in a breath for a couple of seconds and exhaled.
'Yes, I am.'
