From childish stick figures,

to drawings that never end.

And every stroke of charcoal

gives the canvas so much more

that for just a moment I can forget

the wolves growling at my door.

Each stroke of the paintbrush

brings out the smile in your eyes

without a trace of sadness

or all the times you've cried.

But when the day is over,

a drawing is all it will ever be.

It can't bring back the happiness

or the love you once felt for me.

It used to be the sunset

dancing upon your skin,

but now every painting shows

the day our love did end.

And I'll always paint your smile,

I'll never draw your tears,

for hear of the safety of my drawing

you'll never have to fear.
