Remus staggered up the stairs, leaning on Madam Pomfrey, heading towards the Hospital Wing, when James, Sirius, and Peter leapt out in front of them.
"Gotcha!" James exclaimed. "You said you were visiting your grandmother who was dying. Is your grandmother an acromantula you go to battle every month?"
"Um, no..." Remus said, staring at the ground.
"Then where were you?" Sirius demanded.
"Um, okay, I'll tell you, but can I please go to the Hospital first?"
The Marauders walked together up the next three flights of stairs to the Hospital Wing.
"Okay, where do you go every month?" Sirius demanded immediately after they sat down.
"I, fight the, uh, centaurs." Remus decided.
"You fight the centaurs." Peter repeated skeptically.
"Yeah." Remus said, trying to sound convincing.
"So every month on the full moon, you go fight a herd of centaurs." James clarified.
"Yeah, when I'm not, uh, hunting monk- uh, werewolves." Remus said. "Yeah, when I'm not hunting werewolves."
"Oh, so that's why you have so many scars." Sirius said, "realization" dawning.
"So how come you're not a werewolf?" Peter asked.
"Because I, uh, take a, uh, moon, cure, potion. Pill. Medication. Thing." Remus paused. "Madam Pomfrey, would you please explain what the moon cure thing I take every month is?"
"Remus, you know perfectly well there is no such thing as a mo- ule." Pomfrey straightened out of a cupboard. "Remus, there is no such thing as a mule."
"One, that's not what he said." Peter spoke up. "Two, we saw a mule in the forest, I mean, the dearest, uh, boys dorms last week."
"Okay, I know where this conversation started, but I'm lost." Sirius supplied to the conversation.
"Would you like a recap?" James asked.
"Yes, please." Sirius, Remus, Peter, and Madam Pomfrey replied.
"Remus goes to fight the centaurs every month when he's not hunting werewolves, which is why he has so many scars. He's not a werewolf himself because he takes a moon cure potion pill medication thing. Madam Pomfrey insists that there is no such thing as a mo-ule, or mule, Peter says that that is not what Remus said, and that we saw a mule in the forest, he meant, dearest boys dorms last week." James took a breath. "Oh, and Sirius is lost in this conversation and would like a recap."
The other four in the room stared at him.
"Even I have to admit that was impressive." Remus finally broke the silence.
"Okay, what's really going on." James asked.
"You won't want to be friends with me anymore if you know." Remus whispered down to his lap.
Sirius put an arm around his shoulder, while James tousled his hair.
"Remus, no matter what happens, you're one of us now." James said. "You're a Marauder."
"And nothing's going to change that." Sirius added. "You could turn out to secretly be a Death Eater and get James and his future wife, who I believe is Lily, killed and we, well, we at least wouldn't kill you."
Remus looked at them. "You mean it?"
"Absolutely." Peter smiled at him.
Remus took a deep breath. "In all truth, I really am a werewolf."
Sirius, James, and Peter sat there waiting.
"Is, uh, is that it?" James finally asked.
"Um, yes..." Remus looked confused.
"The way you were acting, I thought you were gonna tell us you're a Death Eater that's plotting James's murder." Sirius admitted.
"I don't think You-Know-Who is accepting twelve-year-olds." Remus said. "But I'll look into it."
The foursome laughed.
"So, you're really okay with that?" Remus was the first to recover.
"Of course!" James exclaimed. "If you had told us sooner, we could have helped you!"
"I was afraid that you wouldn't want to be friends with me if I told you." Remus explained. "Thanks for showing me differently."
"Of course, Remus." Sirius said. "And really, dude, we'd kinda figured it out. You really gotta work on your lying skills!"
"You bet, Sirius." Remus laughed. "I'll skip homework tonight and do that."
The Marauders fell into a deathly silence.
"Who are you, and what have you done with Remus Lupin?" Sirius asked, leaning forward.
"We should torture him until he tells, don't you agree?" James added.
"Definately." Peter agreed. "If you're an alien come to abduct us all, you'll have to try harder than that!"
The other three looked at him.
"What?" Peter asked.
"Uh, nothing." Remus said. "And I was just kidding. You think that I would skip doing my homework? What would you copy off of?"
The foursome laughed, glad that there were no more secrets between them. That they knew about.
