"Okay, I've got the bag, and the other bag, and the bag for food, and the suitcase for the baby, wait." James Potter looked down. "The baby doesn't need a suitcase. We need the diaper bag, though, and the bag for Remus, and Sirius, and Lily, and me, and I should pack this. The kid's not due for another week, but hey, better safe than sorry."
"PRONGS!" Sirius yelled from the other room. "IT'S TIME!"
James dropped everything he was holding. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN, IT'S TIME?" he hollered back.
"I MEAN, GET IN THE FREAKING CAR, WE GOTTA GET TO MUNGOS!" Sirius burst into the living room, guiding Lily.
"Okay, hang on, we've gotta get all the bags, and we're not ready," James fainted.
"Okay, I can't have this kid on my own!" Sirius said, his voice panicky.
"Sirius, this is not your baby." Lily said, prodding James with her toe.
"Oh, please, Evans, this is everyone's baby!" Sirius sounded exasperated. (I know the marauders kept calling her evans.)
James sat bolt upright.
"Time to go!" he shouts, and gathers up all the bags and marches out to the car.
"Finally." Lily muttered, and Sirius helped her follow him.
-------------------------------
"WHERE IS JAMES?" Lily screeched. "WHERE IS THE IDIOT THAT I HAVE TO CALL MY HUSBAND?"
"He's in the bathroom, Lily!" Sirius looked terrified.
"I CAN'T DO THIS ON MY OWN!" Lily shrieked. "TELL HIM TO GET IN HERE NOW!"
Sirius hurried out into the hall.
"James, hurry up, your wife is scaring me!"
"Why do you think I've been in here for half an hour?" James asked. "I need to relax before I pass out again!"
------------------------------
Lily sat in the hospital bed, smiling down at her baby.
"What should we name him, James?" she asked.
"Elvendork." James said, with that ridiculous grin on his face he's had since Lily finally stopped screeching at him.
"No." Lily shook her head. "Pick something else."
"Harry." James tried again.
"I like that." Lily smiled again. "Harry James Potter."
James looked around the room at Remus, who was standing slightly back, at Peter, who looked scared and had refused the offer to hold him, and Sirius, who was beaming.
"Will you be godfather, Sirius?" Lily asked what was on James's mind.
Sirius's beam grew bigger. "I would be honored."
Lily passed Harry to him, and Sirius looked down at his godson, this tiny little boy, this miracle. He grins the same grin that he and James always had when they were pranking someone, looked up, and said three words.
"Nice one, James."
And just like that, the cute moment was gone.
