Immortalise (plural)
It is the year 2020. Courtesy of the Bennetts’ work and Theodore’s innovation of how to create more Immortalise, the order of Immortalise have multiplied significantly. The Immortalise have also spread internationally in the years since Clara and Theo began their journey. They started their mission to be the memory of the world, and subtly intervene in human affairs to prevent the repetition of history to the best of their ability — to protect, to defend, to remember. Clara, the first Immortalis, is known as the Aeterna, the angel of the Immortalise; the purest blood of the Immortalise.
20 years before the beginning of Blood of Angels, Cassian Constantine was on a madman’s mission. Clara and Theodore have been missing from the mainstream Immortalise society, assumed to be living peacefully in the English countryside in retirement after 200 years of work establishing the order of the Immortalise. Cassian wants to have a child with his new wife, Valeria, but, they have struggled. Hearing a myth about the Aeterna’s blood making mothers stronger, he went on a mission to find the Aeterna’s pocket watch, the one with the original pin, made with her blood.
As an amateur scientist, he concocted a concentrate from the pin which he then gives to his wife; it is not strong enough to affect her, but it takes effect on their unborn child. His wife has a beautiful daughter, Aurora Aeliana, but she takes her and divorces him promptly, realising what he had done; making their daughter share blood with the Aeterna, having a blood connection to Clara Edevane. Valeria takes Aurora and runs away with a fellow Immortalis, Silas Fitzroy, who becomes Aurora’s adoptive father. After Valeria takes Aurora and flees the world of the Immortalise, Cassian covertly advertises himself with services for immortalis women who would like to be mothers; only one is brave enough (or desperate enough) to take him up on his services. That woman was Emmeline Lancaster, who did not tell her husband Atticus about the controversial services.
She gave birth to a healthy baby boy, but she passed away from complications soon after. At a similar time, Atticus was fatally wounded on a mission and their son Hadrian Larkin was left to his godparents, Elyssium and Lucius Maxwell. The Maxwells adopted him and raised him alongside their children Julius Aloysius (similar in age to Hadrian) and Sophronia Isadora. Elyssium and Lucius have since gone their separate ways, Lucius fading into his work with the council of the elders of the Immortalise, Elyssium remaining present in her children’s lives, beginning a relationship with Silas Fitzroy.
Cassian Constantine was exposed for his immoral actions, and the order of the Immortalise managed to retrieve the watch of the Aeterna, but could never catch Cassian. Valeria tried to raise Aurora as an average human, but Cassian came on Aurora’s eighteenth birthday to take her. Valeria made sure that Cassian did not succeed, but she was killed in the process. Aurora was found by Hadrian who introduced her to the order of the Immortalise. Cassian was eventually caught and killed by Aurora. Aurora and Hadrian, along with Julius and Sophronia are some of the best among the ranks of Immortalise, achieving daring after daring mission to help humankind.
Aurora and Hadrian, with their Aeterna blood, have special, magical powers; but using them too much would result in the harsh reprimand of the unknown benevolent god of the Immortalise. Aurora pushed the envelope on using her magic too far in the eyes of the unknown benevolent god of the Immortalise when she used her powers to prevent a nuclear missile that would have taken out the East coast of the United States of America. Nobody was any the wiser of the scale of the disaster she had prevented.
The punishment for Aurora’s actions from the unknown benevolent god of the Immortalise was to have the memories she had of the world of the Immortalise blocked. She was forced into returning to the life of an average human. But this required her to leave behind her friends, family and love in the order of the Immortalise. She returns to the life she had before she knew about the Immortalise, as an art student going to university.
