“What do you mean don’t go near the water?” I asked her. Mom kept driving, “I don’t trust it.” The road seemed to go on forever after she said that. “Then why move so close to it?”
“It’s hard to explain Mira, believe me. It’ll make sense someday.” She said, “we’re almost there so let’s just drop this for right now.” She huffed. “Okay then.” The rest of the car ride was silent, besides the radio.
We were driving down a winding country road, you could see the ocean and how it faded into the sky. “Wow,” I whispered staring out the passenger window. “This is where I grew up.” Mom said. “You never told me that,” I said. “I don’t like to talk about it much,” she said.
“Why not?” I asked. I regretted asking it though because Mom seemed to get this sad look in her face. “I haven’t seen my parents in a very long time, we kinda had a fight about me being with your father.”
“Ah,” was all I could say. I had never heard much about my grandparents, just some pictures from the only photo album my mom had from them.
