It has been a few days since that petty mess my father's family concocted.
My mother and Uncle Adrien are happy together, and it makes me happy too. I feel like I deserve a happy ending too. I thought. As I was up reading my new favorite series, Delilah's Adventure: The Serenade of the Crimson Empress by Reve Avaritia. I love the romance and historical references. As I read to the current chapter, "Chapter 9: Saturday". As I was reading, Charlotte texted me.
Charlotte: Hey, did you read the current chapter of Delilah's Adventure?
Me: Yes and it is good.😍
Charlotte: Really? What is it about?
Me: Let's just say, Jax collapsed from exhaustion.
Charlotte: Oh my, well I will read the chapter when I get out of this annoying dinner at my father's place.
Me: If you are there, listen to what he has to say?
Charlotte: He's not my favorite. 😒😤
Me: Mine either. The thing is, I know he is trying.
Charlotte: My dad hates me because I look like my mom.
Me: That's no reason to hate someone.
Charlotte: Let me go. He found me.
Me: Bye Charlotte.
Charlotte: Bye Gabs.
After she got done texting me, I had a text from an unfamiliar number. Charlotte texted me again.
Charlotte: Oh, you may get a text from an unfamiliar number. Just guess who it is?
Me: Who?
Charlotte: Destin. I gave him your number. He was shy about talking to you in person.😏
Me: He didn't need to be scared to ask.
After that, I heard my Uncle Adrien come over. I walked downstairs to see he bought ingredients for the both of my mom and I. Uncle Adrien; you didn't have to buy us dinner. I replied. Knowing how your mom is, she would be too tired to do anything. Adrien replied. You are too nice, Adrien. Ghita replied. She smiles. What did you buy, by the way? Ghita asked. Well, I bought ingredients to make you two dinner. Adrien replied. What did you buy? Ghita asked. I bought ingredients for Chicken Basquaise. Adrien replied. You're making that? Ghita asked. Yes. Adrien replied. My mom smiled. I feel she is thinking about something from her past. I thought. The last time you made that for me was the night before I left Adrien. Ghita replied. I know I felt compelled to make it. Adrien replied. He smiled. As I watched him go into the kitchen and prepped the food. I was so shocked he could cook. Uncle Adrien, I didn't know you could cook, since you make dresses and tailor them as well. I replied. Oh, believe me. Your mother thought that too. Adrien replied. Why is that? I asked. My mother granted me visitation to see your grandfather as a child. See, the thing is he couldn't cook to save his life. He depended on the maids to cook for him. They taught me how to cook. Adrien replied. So he wasn't just a sorry parent. I replied. Gaby, he is still your grandfather and my father, unfortunately. We have to respect him much, as I hate him myself. Adrien replied. Hey Adrien, watch out for you about to cut your finger. Ghita replied. What are you talking about? I will not cut myself, Ghita. Adrien replied. So you say. Ghita replied. I walked back up to my room and thought about how nice my uncle was to me. My dad called me.
Hadrien: Hey Gaby, how are you?
Me: I'm doing fine.
Hadrien: Did anything interesting happen to you today?
Me: Nothing much but Uncle Adrien came over and made dinner for us.
Hadrien: He is too nice for his own good.
Me: My mom said that too. Why do you believe that?
Hadrien: Let's say when you get a little older.
Me: Dad, is it you feel jealous about what he is doing for me and mom?
My dad became hesitant after I asked that question. I think he was thinking about his life choices and the effects it had on my mother and I. More on my mom's single mother struggle. Uncle Adrien somewhat supported us when we lived in Italy. I figured that on my own. At first, I thought he did it because he was an old friend of my mother that has feelings for my mom. A little later, I find out he was my father's younger brother. He just kept in touch with her to help her, since my father never did.
An hour passed since I was talking to my father. Gaby, dinner is ready. Ghita yelled. I'm coming. I replied.
Me: Good night, dad.
Hadrien: Good night, Gabriela.
As I walked down the stairs, I could smell the aroma of dinner. I wanted to eat it.
My mom set the table, and Adrien made my plate. I sat at the table and ate it. This is so good. He can cook, too. Mom, please marry my uncle. I thought. I'm in love with this dish. I replied. Adrien laughed at me. What is funny, Uncle Adrien? I asked. Your expression is reminiscent of your mother's when she first ate it, too. Adrien replied. He is full of surprises. Ghita replied. Oh stop, you flatter me. Adrien replied. It is good. I replied. He pats my head and smiles. She is such a complaisant girl, a girl who doesn't need to be bothered with the corrupt people I call my family. Adrien thought.
Stay Tuned.
