Here we are! Do you remember John? Yes, it was the drawing on the issue 3, the man that was walking on the street. I wanted to redo it so we don’t stay on a bad note and I decided to call him John… John Doe.
I would like you to pay a little attention to this public bench… Huhuhu…42Please respect copyright.PENANACTYivy16BA
So did I succeed to figure out Luis Royo drawings and did mine are close to his art a little bit? (Yeah, remember, it was the main aim of this blog…).
In fact, we can pretty assure that… My drawings aren’t even alike a little with Luis Royo’s! We can genuinely be surprised and wondering rightfully why?!? (Ahhh, yes, I can hear some of you answering, “because he is super talented, of course”, etc… Well, I mean except the obvious reason!) …
In fact, when you work on your skills continuously, you develop your style, what we call in French “la patte de l’artiste”, which means that you put on your work a kind of footprint that just belong to you only. Your style is influenced by your experience and how you interpret your reality, that why you will have a lot of different creations out there that will resonate for some people and don’t for others, of course, the main reason being that everyone is different and will like something that they can relate to.
So here was the difference that I had to acknowledge when I started this journey and took this artist, Luis Royo as a reference. It was necessary to differentiate inspiration from imitation.
When you take inspiration from something or someone, you have a hint of what exists and what kind of result you can obtain. You can, then create something that correspond to your own reality and discover your solutions to your problems that will apply to you and only to you. Whereas the imitation can left you insatiate; you won’t be able to understand others choices, to find your own characteristics and you would possibly end up being dependant of someone else style… Until the moment where you find yourself impersonate your model because you failed understanding your own particularity.
So, let’s just remember the difference between inspiration and imitation. One help you to find yourself and your own way, the other leads you to lose yourself on someone else way. With the possibility of you drifting away, without the certitude to retrieve your own path one day.
Then yes, I figured out a little my model’s style, but I definitely found my own, that why it was a very interesting and successful journey for me😊.
