“We’re here!” Mom said. We had driven down a long winding driveway but we were finally here, our new home. It was going to be just us in the quiet country. I think the idea was beginning to grow on me the more I thought about it.
“It’s so pretty,” I said admiring the beach. I touched the warm sand, when it all disappeared it left my hands glistening in the sunlight. “Ah, I’ve missed this.” Mom said staring out at the sea. I was beginning to think she would jump right in with her clothes on the way she was staring at it.
“We should take the stuff we have with us in the house, the moving truck should be here soon.” She said suddenly causing me to break out of trance. “Yeah I suppose,” I said quietly.
I followed Mom and watched as she opened the trunk. She turned and smiled at me, her blue eyes shimmering, I hadn’t seen her this happy since before dad… never mind. I picked up my suitcase, “where do I take this?” I asked. “Into the house, you can pick whatever room you want sweetie.”
I carried the suitcase over to the house. The house was medium sized and had pale yellow siding and the front door was staring out to the ocean. Sand and dry grass covered the path and the yard. I opened the door and it creaked open. The kitchen was the first room, it still had all the necessary appliances and they looked rather new for such a run down looking house.
I made my way through the rest of the house which was rather empty, I turned down the hall and realized, there was stairs. My friend Lily had stairs in her house but I had never had a house with stairs before. I had only really lived in that apartment.
I headed up the stairs after thinking about them for another minute. There were three bedrooms, one would be mine and the other one would be moms then we’d have a guest room. There was also a bathroom big enough for a tub. We only had a shower in our apartment.
This was going to be different for sure, and I had a good feeling about it.
