"Cammie Hardernen?" the officer said, stepping in the interrogation room. "Age twenty-three, war veteran, expertise in bombs and explosives?"
I gazed up. "Who wants to know?"
The officer just made an impatient sound, slamming files on the desk. "Are you willing to talk now?"
"I keep my lips sealed."
"We both know that it was you who bombed the NOVIA cooperation, Miss Hardernen. Let alone the evidence that we all have points in your direction."
I smiled then. "If that's really true, then why don't you convict me?"
He slammed his hands on the desk. "Damn it, Cammie! I'm offering you a solution here!"
"A very horrible one," I remarked, lashes lowering. "I did this office a favor and you're offering something very poor in return."
He gazed up then, clearly thinking he caught my confession as he smiled. "What favor, Miss Hardernen?"
"Your ice cream machine was broken," I said, smiling now. "I hit it with a hammer, now it's fixed. And you're charging me with murder?"
He glared then. "We both know that's bullshit."
"Everything in life is filled with bullshit," I remarked. "Now... can I go home? I have dinner preparations to make."
He just slammed his hands on the table. "HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ARE DEAD BECAUSE OF YOU! DO YOU HAVE NO REMORSE?"
My lashes lowered.
No, I didn't. That company deserved its downfall with how many people they killed.
Including my younger sister.
They deserved all the blood on their hands to be replaced with their own.
"ANSWER THE QUESTION AND BE HONEST," he snapped then. "DID YOU BOMB THE NOVIA COOPERATI—"
"Excuse me, Officer Coneg?" someone at the door said.
He gazed over and I did, too. "What?"
"Her lawyer is here and asks for you to leave the room," the female newbie said then.
My brows drew together.
Lawyer...? I didn't....
The officer just made an impatient sound and stood up straight, and I gazed over as a small girl rounded the corner and entered the room.
A... child? What the hell?
But a tall, thin man entered behind her, wearing what looked like butler attire.
"Hello, my name is Yumi Phantomhive," the girl said, gazing over at me with a smile. "You must be Cammie. We have much to speak about."
