OVA Continued - Cammie Hardernen
"I ain't telling you shit," I snapped when the Yumi girl sat at the table across from me.
"I didn't ask you to tell me anything," Yumi said then, making gaze over at her. She just clasped her fingers together and smiled, setting her chin on them. "I know everything."
"What?" I snapped. "Everything? That's a lie and you know it."
She just closed her eyes kindly. "Cammie Hardernen, born by parents Jim and Carrie Chris but was sold to foster at age seven. Picked up by parents Samantha and John Hardernen at age ten. Had an adoptive sister Alysha Hardernen that was age six when she came into the family." Yumi gazed up. "Your sister was seventeen when she figured out that the NOVIA cooperation was money laundering from poor households, conning them into giving them money, so she decided to go public, but sadly..." her lashes lowered, "she was slaughtered."
I gritted my teeth then, tears burning my eyes. "So?"
Yumi just sat up at the butler remained at her side. "I know how you feel. The vengeance, the rage, the anger. It's horrific and agonizing."
"You don't know what you're talking about!" I said then, anger burning through me. "You little brat! You don't know the pain! How her death killed my own parents! How lonely I've been for so long!"
Yumi gazed up then, eyes darkening. "I know exactly how you feel. My parents were murdered in their own bedroom, along with my older sister."
I froze then, eyes widening.
"I was only fifteen at the time," her voice was quiet, "I woke up from a nightmare, wandered the manor, and then heard screaming. I found them deceased in the bedroom... or almost. They were reaching for me, begging for me, but I was frozen. I couldn't move, it was... so dark, too... and agonizing, and cold."
I stared into her single eye, watching the reflections of her past flash through her blue iris.
She was telling the truth.
"What... happened to your eye?" I said then.
She looked away then, seeming more touchy about the topic. "A tragic accident... after their death."
The butler next to her gazed over with his red eyes, looking slightly sad.
Were... those contacts?
I shrank back in my seat then, looking away as something cold consumed me. "What did you do? To the ones who killed your parents?"
"Nothing," she said then, "yet."
I gazed up.
"When I find them," she said then, eyes blazing in anger now, "I'm going to slaughter them. Each and every one of them. I want to watch the life leave their eyes, watch them burn."
I stared at her then and blinked.
"You want that, too," Yumi noticed, "that's why you bombed their main building."
I remained silent.
She gazed up then. "The CEO and his underlings died weeks ago; the company was going bankrupt. Was that not enough for you?"
"It wasn't," I said quietly, lashes lowering. "They're not the only culprits. Everyone in that company were part of the scam, even the lesser people. They were only hired if they knew how to scam... steal money... leave people with nothing." I smiled then, teeth cracking. "Don't get me wrong. Whoever killed that CEO is a fucking saint. I'd like to thank them."
"I appreciate your gratitude," Yumi said then.
I nodded numbly.
But I blinked when I processed her words, gazing up. "Wait... what?"
She smiled, eye glowing dangerously.
But I could see the anger in her eyes, the reflection of his horror-struck face off the blue... I could see her memories, almost.
"You... you killed him?" I said then, brows drawing together. "How? You're just a child!"
Yumi just chuckled. "I have my resources. I police the underground, after all, that's my job."
I stared. "Police... the underground? Like the old Phantomhives? I didn't think they did that anymore." I sat up fully. "How do you do it? Aren't you targeted? You're just a child!"
She then gazed up. "As I said, I have my resources."
The butler next to her smiled, remained still.
"Now... I do have a question for you, Miss Hardernen."
"Call me Cammie," I said then.
She giggled and gazed up. "Alright, Cammie. Why did you do it, knowing you'd get caught?"
"They deserved it," I said then, lashes lowering.
Yumi shook her head, making my brows draw together. "Yes, they did, but that's not why, is it?"
I looked away then, something cold consuming me at her piercing eyes.
"You wanted to get caught," she said then, watching me carefully. "That's why the dispatch center miraculously got a phone call from a woman, saying that the building was about to be bombed. You wanted police to come and take you. The question is... why?"
I remained silent. "I have nothing. I have nowhere else to go. I needed a home."
"They could kill you, Cammie," she said then, voice stern. "You do know that there's a high probability of them killing you rather than you being in jail?"
"I... I know."
"And you don't mind that?"
"No."
Yumi sighed then, leaning forward on her elbows. "Cammie, I want you to work with me."
I gazed up then, eyes growing in shock. "What?"
"I think you would do very well in my manor," she said, eyes glowing with her smile.
I blinked. "Why me?"
"Well, from your file, it says that you have an expertise in bombs and explosions." She gazed up. "Can you name three ways to cause an explosion with household items?"
I thought for a moment. "You can destroy a bag of flour, and have it fill the room, it basically acts as an explosive gas if grained enough. If you light a match, it will cause an explosion. The second thing you can do is combine bleach and other household cleaners, although there are rarities. You can combine it with acetylene, ether, turpentine, ammonia, natural gasses, hydrogen, or finely divided metals. The contact between substances will cause an explosion. I guess the last thing you can do is place foil or something silver in the microwave. Radiation doesn't interact well with metal because the ions bounce off the metal constantly, which causes an explosion." I then looked down at her.
Yumi just smiled. "See? That's why I need you."
"You need me to blow up things?" I said then, feeling excitement course inside me, but I tried to shove it down.
"I need you to protect my manor," she said, eyes still glowing. "And your talent with explosions will be very useful indeed."
My brows drew together then. "Why do you need protection for your manor?"
Yumi chuckled. "Don't you remember what you asked me earlier? How I am targeted by bad people at such a young age? Well, it's exactly that. I need protection."
My brows drew together. "You would really take in someone like me...?"
Yumi gazed up. "How does a hundred an hour sound?"
I blinked, but then a wide smile spread across my face.
