My dear reader,
I find myself lonely on the days when your hands would turn the pages that lead you to my world, if only for an hour or two. You were right there by my side when the Angel's Curse gave me an eternity to live, and the ability to speak many tongues, and understand dear Ned, my faithful dog. You and I traveled the world together, and it seemed at the time that you were as cursed as I.
It seems as if an eternity has passed since you last joined me as I battled pirates, helped others, and lived in fear of the bell. Yet, when I had to leave all those I knew, you followed me. Every time the bell would ring, as Ned and I would flee, you would follow, ready for the next adventure.
You made my eternity seem a better place, as you joined me in my same travels over and over again. You wept when I had to leave Karay and Dominic, as if you had lost your best friend, but as we ran away, you ran with us, leaving them behind so that they would not see us stay forever young, while they slowly grew old.
What happened? Do you no longer see Captain Vanderdecken's ghostly ship on the horizon? Have you grown tired of hanging with the boy who would never be more than that? Or have you grown weary of our travels in a way in which I must leave you, as I have been cursed to leave others? I worry sometimes that you have forgotten me, but hope and pray that isn't so, asking the Angel when you will once more be next to my side for our adventures.694Please respect copyright.PENANA5nZYlZt6gc
One day, you may find your way back to the beginning, where you first met me, a young boy called Neb at the time, and Den, my faithful dog. You never questioned our change of names, following us from the pirate ship onto land, where we became Ben and Ned. Will you follow once more as Castaways of the Flying Dutchman, and join us on our quest to fulfill the Angel's Command? Would you still travel with us on the Voyage of Slaves?
Time alone will only tell, and I have an eternity to find out. So I will wait here, in the pages of the novels until the day you return to join us in our travels. I know you don't belong in my world, and in a way I'm glad that you don't, because if you did, I would fall in love with you, only to have to leave as you grew old and I stayed forever young. Return, when you can to the pages of youth, to a world that took away your pain and hatred for the life around you and replaced it with the pain, joy, happiness, sadness, and thrill that was and still is my world.
Maybe one day you will pass me along to a child of yours who will enjoy the very travels that you and I did. Until then, I will wait. What else does one do with an eternity?
Yours for eternity,
Ben
Note:My character is Ben, from the Castaways series by Brian Jacques. Sadly, this isn't the kind of thing I'm good at writing, but I hope you enjoy. I made reference to all three books in the series by name. Castaways of the Flying Dutchman, The Angel's Command, The Voyage of Slaves, and all of the characters belong to Brian Jacques, and the world he created within it's pages.694Please respect copyright.PENANALRfe3TiBHt
