No one knows when the Eyylik race first appeared in the kingdoms of men. Larger and stronger than Humans, the dark-blue skinned Eyyliks were a race of warriors. Their desire for a place to call home led the first Eyyliks to build the Citadel, an enormous fortress, a testament to the strength and power of their race. They are very protective of it, and do not allow Humans to step foot within its reinforced walls.565Please respect copyright.PENANAnzW2uxk2vS
The Eyyliks themselves stand 6 1/2 to 7 feet tall with broad shoulders. Females are generally smaller and have less muscle-mass. Eyyliks are bipeds similar to Humans. They have curled horns, pointed ears, white hair, and dark blue skin. Their eyes, however, are what make the Eyylik so drastically unique. Their eyes are dark red with vertical pupils like a cats. Eyyliks can see an aura of magical power surrounded any human who has awakened, making them invaluable in the fight against Sorcerers.
The Eyyliks were always smaller in population than their Human allies. Whereas a typical Human would live for maybe 60-70 years, male Eyyliks would live closer to 100 years. Female Eyyliks, however, would rarely live past 35 and would only bear one child in their lifetime. This made female Eyyliks highly coveted in their culture, and are offered as wives to the most dedicated and proven of warriors in order to bear a son or daughter of the strongest bloodlines.
When Eyylik boys are young, they are taught to fight, track, and hunt Shades. When they reach the age of 13, the boys go through a ceremony known as the Harrowing. During the Harrowing, the boy's weapons are infused with the strength of the Fire Goddess, Ryltia, and using this weapon they are finally able to harm the Shades' incorporeal bodies. They are sent with a small group of experienced fighters into the world to slay their first Shade or Sorcerer. After accomplishing this task, the boy is given his first tattoo, a black mark of his choosing on his body. For each kill he achieves throughout his years as a warrior, he adds onto that tattoo.
When a warrior reaches 40, their bodies begin to slow and they are not ideal fighters. Upon returning to the Citadel, they are honoured for their contribution to the fight and are retired. During retirement, Eyyliks are assigned a wife and a Human city or town in which they are to live out their days as a Minister. As a Minister, they have many duties relating to governing a city. A Minister is also primarily in charge of dispensing justice, as they can see if someone is attempting to hide their magical powers.
Eyylik females are also trained to fight from a young age, although they are never expected to fight and do not go through the Harrowing ceremony. Girls are also taught language and history, mathematics and finance, so to better help their assigned husbands with his Minister's duties. When she bears a child, the child is sent to the Citadel shortly following it's birth to be raised away from Humans.
The Eyylik do recognise the pantheon of the Humans, but do not actively worship them. The primary Eyylik deity is Ryltia, the Goddess of Fire, Sun, Protection, and Healing. The Eyyliks also widely worship Ulmes, the God of Power, Justice, Warfare, Physical Strength, and Violence.
The Eyyliks worship strength and power above all else, and they despise any physical or emotional weakness.
