“Stop!” I screamed in agony. “Please, stop. . .”
I writhe in the metallic bed I was strapped in. I felt like my body was on fire. My blood was boiling inside of me and I felt like I was going to blow up. I gasped. Hungry for air. The fire was taking over my lungs.
I was dying. . .
“No!” I screamed.670Please respect copyright.PENANAyPhSVsyCOs

I dried my face and hand from the towel beside the sink. What a way to wake up. Nightmare. Always nightmares. People said that once you become a hunter nightmares would rule your night. Because of all the monster you encounter. But my nightmares consists of my past. A past that I couldn’t even remember clearly. But recently, my mind started to unveil them again. And right now, it doesn’t look good.
All those years when I couldn’t even decide what to do: forget or remember. All those years I’ve manage to remain numb. Living but not feeling anything. It was my way to cope. It was hard but it helped me move on. The only thing I remember was waking up. Forgotten everything about my life except for the past few weeks I’ve been through. And it wasn’t even good.
But now that I was slowly remembering, the numbness I’ve built was shattering. Shattering with the remainder of my sanity.
I walked, or rather swung, towards my bed. I didn’t felt like working today. I don’t even felt like living. But I can’t kill myself.
Trust me, I’ve tried.
I gave myself a bitter laugh. I wanted to kill myself. Badly. It’s just that no matter what I do. I would still wake up to find tomorrow. I covered my eyes with my left arm. This life was meaningless and endless.
Only thing that made this bearable was Sky.

I heard my front door clicked as someone opened it. My senses alert, I moved silently but swiftly behind my bedroom door. I held my breath as I strained to hear whoever’s footstep was out there. It was moving quietly. But not as silent as mine.
As I heard it just by my bedroom door, I held my breath in anticipation. The door knob turned slowly. And it entered.
I didn’t wait to see who it was before I attacked. I tackled him to the ground and I landed in front of him.
“Sky?” I exclaimed. “What the hell?”
He stood us up from the floor and pulled me to a tight hug. “You’re still here.” He breathe. “I know they can’t catch you and fight you but I thought you’ll leave.”
“What are you talking about?” I asked, dumbfounded. “Are you high?”
“This isn’t the time to be joking, Gret. You’re not an idiot so I thought you would have packed and leave.”
I pulled away from him and stared at his face. He wasn’t stoned. That much I could see but I really can’t see what his problem was. And I guess he saw the confusion in my face because he suddenly asked,
“You didn’t looked at the bounty list, did you?

I sat in my couch and Sky threw his ledger at me before he vanished in the open door of my bedroom. I could hear drawers opening and bags being zipped.
He’s packing my things?!
“Sky? What the hell?!” I exclaimed
“Just read the damn bounty, Gretel!” He roared in anger.
I reluctantly picked the ledger up and refreshed the page to the newest bounty. And boy, I was shock. Scratch that, I was more than shock.670Please respect copyright.PENANAT6bKYIkmVB

I was now being hunted.

I angrily jumped out of the couch. And as I was about to kick something, the front door flew open.
Sky scrambled out of the bedroom with my backpack. He threw it at me and for the first time, I noticed, he was wearing one too. I was speechless. He was planning to go with me. But that feeling soon vanished when someone entered my room.
A bunch of hunters were slowly closing in on us. Their weapons raised and pointed at me and Sky.
“Gretel Everdeen, come with us peacefully and I promise no blood shall shed.” The man in the middle spoke. He was in his mid-thirties. His black hair fading and his brown eyes shows tiredness but hostility was obvious. He probably wants my bounty money for his retirement.
I smirked. “I know it won’t be my blood.”
I kicked the wooden table hard and it hit the hunters in the knees. I threw Sky’s ledger at him and he secured it into his belt without losing a beat. And in the same moment he took his bow and arrow from his belt and rained arrows on the hunters. They scrambled to all directions to avoid his attack and before they could even realize he’d stopped firing, we turned and jumped through the apartment’s window.670Please respect copyright.PENANAZpTWm9u6Rc

My breathing wasn’t heavy. Even though we’ve been running for hours. But Sky was another story. He was already catching his breathe. Though, he wasn’t complaining about it I felt bad. This was all because of me. I was being hunted and I don’t even know why.
“Let’s take a break.” I said as I took my surroundings in.
It was a quiet place. The houses we’ve passes can be counted in one hand. Only once in a while would we see a person or two. This place was safe enough for a few minutes break.
Sky immediately dropped to the ground. His shirt was sticking to his body because of his sweat. His hair sticky and standing up in all place. Without sitting up, he removed his leather jacket and threw it beside him.
“Tell me you packed some water for yourself.” He shook his head at me. “What a hunter you are.” I mocked. “You planned on running but didn’t packed any food or water. Bravo, just bravo.” I finished with a slow clap.
He finally regained some strength to sit down. He rested his arms on his knees. “We’ve been running for what? Almost 3 hours? I was bound to get tired.” He complained and then stared up at me. His brow furrowed. “But you haven’t sweat a bit.”
I turned to look at him and rolled my eyes. Suddenly, he pulled me down towards him. He had my right hand behind me and I was force to kneel in front of him. He slowly moved his face towards mine and we were only an inch apart.
Something inside of me, something I didn’t knew existed, wanted us to stay like this forever. But I know I couldn’t. We couldn’t because really, we were on the run.
So, I decided to continue our topic. “I’m fit. I hunt. You hunt. But you eat a lot.” I finished with a smirk. “C’om big man, I know a place we can stay for a while.”
He grumbled something along the line of ‘mood ruin-er’. But I decided not to comment on it as I stood up. I offered him a hand and he reluctantly took it.

“Here, hurry up.” I called as soon as I saw the house. We aren’t running anymore. Just walking among people to avoid being conspicuous.
The house was nothing out of place in this neighborhood. It was just the exact size for a family of four. Its outer paint was a light touch of cream and its lawn was obviously unkempt.
I entered the garden without looking back at Sky. I stopped at the porch and looked under the mat to take the spare key. Then, I opened the door.
My eyes grew in shock as I turned to tackled Sky to the ground just in time to escape the rain of bullets from the inside. I rolled away from Sky and stood up as he did. We crouched low and stayed clear of the door.
I can’t believe they found this place. It wasn’t even named after me ‘cuz I don’t even know who owns it. I just know that I know the place.
I heard someone clapping as they near the door. I waited. And when they were finally in eye sight, I felt my knees turned to jelly and gave up. No wonder they found this house.
Three men were at the door. They were all handsome, I admit grudgingly. The two at the side have raven hair and coal black eyes. The one at the middle was the most breathe-taking of them three. His eyes a mesmerizing leaf green. Three of them aged as years passed by but their appearance didn’t justified their age.
I felt Sky rushed to my side in a swift motion. His hand in my back, supporting me. But no support would be able to help me now from the people in front of me. From these three men.
