“There’s no heartbeat!” One of the men shouted.
“She can’t die! Don’t let her die!” Another one ordered.
“It’s too late, sir. Subject Rose is dead.”
There was a loud noise as someone threw materials and equipment in the floor.
I know I was still alive. I can hear them perfectly. But I can’t feel my heart. I opened my eyes and saw a mirror above me.
My eyes were the color of blood.648Please respect copyright.PENANACCR7ay63Hv

I flinched as the man finished tying my hands behind me. I saw the other one tying Sky’s hand. He was gritting his teeth. I’m sure he didn’t liked to be tied up. But right now, I was too damn scared to care.
They gave us a kick but I didn’t budge. Sky was another story. He was slammed to the floor but at the last moment he righted himself.
“You’ve been a bad girl for 16 years, my dear child. You made us chase you from all over the world.” The blonde man spoke as he walked towards me. “So, how have you been?”
“Since when do you care about me, Henry?” I spat.
He laughed. “Yes, you’ve been fine.” He continued as if his mood couldn’t be tainted. “After all, you’ve evaded us for 16 years.”
“Gretel, what the hell is happening?” Sky asked.
All three men turned to stare at Sky like he had lost his mind. I know he wanted to beat the crap out of these three but I also know that he didn’t because he was waiting for my go-signal, which I still haven’t gave.
“Gretel?” Henry asked with a patronizing smile that made Sky’s blood boil.
“Duh,” was all Sky’s answer and he was instantly kicked in the stomach. He doubled over in the ground.
“Sky!” I stood up and ran towards him. “I’m sorry to have you involve.”
“What lies have you feeding this man, Rose?” Henry inquired.
“Rose?” Sky and I asked simultaneously.
“Your name, my dear. It’s Rose.” He answered.
“I didn’t told any lies, Henry.” I said through gritted teeth. “What do you expect me to do when I don’t remember anything except for the times I’ve spent with you? Which is the exact memories I would have wanted to lose.”

Sky and I were sat back to back in the living room of the house. The interior was plain. The windows were covered in thick curtains, most of the floor was covered in carpet.
“They look happy, don’t they?” Sky asked, pointing to a portrait above the fireplace.
I followed his eyes towards it and saw it. My eyes grew as I took in the portrait. It was a family of four. The mother was standing on the left. Her hair was the reddest of all and it complemented her fair feature. Her ocean blue eyes laughing and full of love. Beside her was the father. His blonde hair unruly and his leaf green eyes were joyous and strong and proud. Between them were two children; a boy and a girl. The boy was obviously older. He was standing beside his sister proudly. He had his father’s hair and mother’s eyes. The girl had her mother’s hair; the purest of red and it hung over her waist, twisting and curling at the tail. Her eyes a mix of blue and green.
I jolted back as memories came rushing back to me. My breathing was heavy as I tried to stop the rush of images that came flooding into me. Sky, concerned, moved towards me and called my names several times before I could comprehend what has happened.
I was lying on the floor. Blood was dripping from my nose. “I remember.” I mumbled.
“Remember what?” He asked.
“It’s me.”
“What?”
“The kid on the photo,” I answered. “It’s me.”
No wonder I know this place. I lived in it. And my family was dead. Dead because of me. And I couldn’t stop the tears that started to fall. Now, I that remembered, I wished I didn’t. I should have just continued to be Gretel.
“Gret,” He called, moving more closely towards me. “Gretel, it’s all right.”
“No,” I bawled. “No, it’s not. Everything will not be alright now that I remember.”
“What change?”
Except for my appearance? My hair was no longer curled at the end and it stopped just below my shoulder. My eyes were no longer the beautiful color of blue green but a faded brown like it had enough of life. But I knew that wasn’t his question so I answered, “My prospective.”
Someone started to clap and I quickly sat up, stopping my tears. Henry and his two henchmen were at the door. My fear of these three have completely vanished as I remembered my family. These are the men who took them away. The men who killed them. My breathing heavy and I had trouble seeing clearly.
“Kill the other one, we’re leaving.” Henry commanded.
“No!” I screamed. “Sky!” I tried to push him away but I heard the gunshot and he dropped to the ground.
My blood boiled and I saw red. I felt my body shaking. I know he’s still breathing. I know my Sky will live. But they will pay. I lost enough and I’m not losing him.
The ground was shaking beneath me. I couldn’t control my anger. Couldn’t rein it in. I couldn’t keep it in anymore. It’s time the world see what I am.
But the world had to wait because when I turned to look at Sky, all thought vanish but him. Due to anger, I quickly destroyed the rope in my hands. He was sprawled on the floor. Holding his wound at the stomach. I leaned closer to his face as I removed his rope.
“I’m sorry, Sky. For everything” I cried. “For having you involve.”
“Gretel, you didn’t involve me. I chose to be.” He then reached a bloodied hand and caress my cheek. “No matter what, you’re still my Gretel.”
I let go of his hand and stood up to face my three nightmares. My own personal monsters. They were positioned in a triangle. Henry at the middle.
All I can think was how they took my family away. How they were taking Sky. My breathing was slowly becoming uneven as the whole house shook. Chunks of woods and stones were falling. Everywhere but near Sky. His circle was perfectly clean from any debris.
Watch out, world. Here comes Gretel.
I could feel fear radiate in the air. I could almost taste it. The trio in front of me didn’t look so scary anymore. They were insignificant. People no one would care if they died. It’ll do the world good to be rid of them.
My eyes turned red.
I wanted to save Henry for last. So, I started with the man on the left. I stared at his eyes. He was not moving. Staring directly at my eyes. The other two started to run but I held my right hand up and pulled them back with an invisible force. They fought back but I paralyzed their body all without leaving the third man’s stare.
He started to shake as fear ate at his mind. His breathing fastening and his heart beat quickening. For a few minutes, he was quiet and the next he was screaming his lungs out as he fell to the floor trying to scratch his brain out.
I tilted my head to the right. I wanted to feel bad at what I was doing. Really, I did. I just couldn’t find it in me. So, without remorse, I snapped my fingers and he stopped moving.
I turned to the man at Henry’s right. This man was no different from the other. I stared at his eyes and he pleaded for me to just kill him. So, I granted his wish. I snapped my fingers and he stopped breathing.
I freed Henry from being paralyzed and he quickly fell to his knees, begging. “Please, Rose. Think this through.” His voice quivered. “I know you never wanted to be a monster.”
I pulled him towards me with a simple flick of my hand. He stopped mid-air in front of me. “Too late,” I whispered. “You’ve already made me one.”
Then I stared at his eyes. I showed him his worst nightmare: being burn alive. In his mind, he was burning. He could feel the heat in his skin. Feel the smoke fill his lungs. The pain as fire engulfed him. He started screaming. Begging for me to stop. But I never did.
I never will.
I closed my mouth to his. Just an inch away. And I blew fear in it. So that even though I don’t stare at me his nightmares will still continue.
“Goodbye, uncle.” I whispered to his ears. “Rose is dead a long time ago, don’t you remember? You killed her when you put that monster blood on her.”
I turned and went to Sky. He was still conscious and I am sure he witnessed everything I’ve just done.
I blinked and my eyes returned to brown.
“Remind me not to get on your bad side.” He joked as he cough.
I cannot believe he could still make jokes. With all that has happened. With his injury and with my abilities. I knelt besides him and helped him stood up.
“Come on, let’s get you somewhere and treat that wound of yours.”
We walked side by side. His arm on my shoulder and my arm on his waist, supporting his weight. Helping him walk as straight as possible.
“Have I told you I love you?” He asked like it was the normal-est of all sentences.
My heart skipped a beat. “No, but you kept on dropping clues.” Then added in a whisper and hoped he didn’t hear it, “I love you, too.”
