早前有文友觸及自閉症的話題。對 autism 或 Asperger's syndrome 的認識，除來自外國網站的案例和報道，主要是讀過的兩本小說： Jodi Picoult 的《House Rules》以及 Mark Haddon 的《The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time》。
頗有趣的是這兩本小說不約而同描寫患自閉的少年主角如何獨力查案、他們看待世界／人／事物的角度、世人對自閉患者的誤解、家屬的難處、痛苦與掙扎。
《The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time》手法比較輕鬆一點，從生活小品描述男主角如何憑他高功能自閉者對數字的敏感、對事物觀察入微等優勢去調查誰是殺狗真兇。
而 Jodi Picoult 的《House Rules》則沉重得多，患有 Asperger's syndrome 的男主角自小喜歡跑到案發現場查案破案，而且永遠先警方一步拆解謎題。不過正因如此，他才會被鎖定為疑凶，警方指控他是為了製造完美犯罪而殺人。外人的成見與誤解、不被家人體諒的痛苦、血濃於水的逼不得已……
作者文筆細膩足以牽動讀者的情緒，儘管沉重不安，卻又忍不住一頁頁揭下去想盡快讀到結局，這便是 Jodi Picoult 的功架與實力。
