The Southern part of the continent was a place with a great climate suitable for agriculture. Farmers were able to lead a great life and it was a well-respected career despite being common.
There was a farmer ploughing the fields while worriedly glancing up at the sky from time to time. If one followed his sight, they would see black, ominous clouds billowing in. The farmer was a healthy middle-aged man with the surname Kam. He was known as Big Kam by the villagers.
Big Kam was a good-natured man. Since the farmland was left for him by his late father, he was healthy and fit, unlike many other old farmers. Thus he always lent a helping hand to the older farmers in need.
“I hope the rain will be small…” Big Kam muttered to himself in the dark sky.
“Big Kam! Big Kam!” Suddenly, a woman came running towards him from afar. “Big Kam! Your wife is about to give birth! Hurry and come back!”
“What?” Big Kam asked, unable to hide his happiness. He threw his hoe aside randomly and ran back to the village.
Around this area was large-scale farmland in the South. Due to the climate difference, agriculture products were sold in the North for a high price. Thus, the South’s Imperial Household placed great importance on agriculture and divided land that was suitable for farming to farmers to work on freely. It might be called a village, but it was as huge as some towns and the farmlands outside the village were vast.
As soon as Big Kam reached his house, lightning struck from the sky.
Boom! It struck his roof open. “Dear!” Big Kam called, his face as pale as a sheet of paper.
He dashed into the house to see the midwife carrying a baby. “Big Kam! It’s a boy! A boy!”
The destroyed roof slipped away from his mind as he hurried to hold the baby in his hands.
It’s a baby! And he’s mine!

There was a hill located not far from the village. If one were to stand there, they would be able to see the brightly lit village and farmland outside clearly.
It rained heavily, thunder and lighting slashing through the sky.
A group of forty to fifty men in neat, black clothes stood on the hill. They could only be seen when lightning struck, lighting them up momentarily. The men looked calm. The one who stood at the forefront observed the sky and the loud thunder before nodding in satisfaction to know that the thunder and sound of the rain was able to conceal them well. He made a gesture with his hands and received a reply in no time. This was a unique sign language of thiers.
Where are the soldiers?
I have handled them all, they will be discovered in roughly an hour.
Kill, leave nothing behind and burn everything.
Boom!
Another lighting bolt shot through the sky, lighting the sky up. The hill was now empty, the group of men nowhere to be seen.

“You’ve worked hard, my dear,” Big Kam told his wife as he hugged his son blissfully. His wife might be tired and pale, but she was still looking at the father and son pair with smiles. The baby didn’t cry, all he did was stare at his father weirdly, filled with curiosity.
So these are my parents this time? The baby thought to himself, the image of him being an orphan floated back to his mind. That’s the simplest life. I don’t have anyone to worry about or miss… but… That younger sister that I got for free, the younger sister that never talked…
It was hard to believe how sad a baby could look. But the overjoyed Big Kam and his wife didn’t notice the baby’s abnormality.
“Ahhh!” A blood-curdling scream could be heard ringing across the village.
“Dear, did you hear anything weird?” Big Kam said as he looked out of the house.
“Really?”
“Ahhhh!!!” This time round, a sharp female scream rang out.
“Oh no! Something’s happening!” Big Kam shot up and looked at his wife and the baby in his hands. He ran to the side to get a huge box and stuffed some straw in the box before putting the baby in. After checking, he placed a stone at the side of the box to allow air into the box before closing it.
“Dear, I’ll take a look and come back quickly.”
“Be careful…”
Big Kam nodded and opened his door. But as soon as he did, lightning struck from the dark sky as a man in black appeared in front of Big Kam suddenly.
Poof!
The man’s hand turned bright gold and smashed onto Big Kam’s chest. Big Kam flew backwards and fell to the ground lifelessly.
“Ahh!” Mrs Kam let out a miserable scream. She wasn’t a cultivator, but that didn’t mean that she couldn’t recognise one.
This is obviously a glipher! Is my house getting robbed by a glipher?
The man went straight into the room and did the same to Mrs Kam who was still lying weakly on the bed, putting her to eternal rest with her husband.
Whoosh!
After ensuring that they were both dead, the man walked out of the house.

Tap.
The man in black stopped in his tracks and turned around to look at the huge box at the corner. He noticed the stone at the side of the lid.
The man turned towards the box.
He opened the box to see a baby lying on the straw, staring at him silently. The baby wasn’t happy or surprised to see him, but looked at him like a stranger instead. It was hard to believe that a newborn would stare at someone in this manner.
“Are you done?” A low growl came from outside.
The man in black shuddered and stared at the kid complicatedly. He put the stone back on the edge before shutting the box. “‘Yes.”

The next day. The South was shocked. The agriculture sector in the South was ravaged, and the Imperial Household was greatly angered.
Nobody in the village of a thousand survived except for a single baby, with the surname Kam.
