At night, the house on the left and the house on the right that shared the walls with that house heard the sound of a crying woman coming from that house. When they opened their doors and came out to check, there was not any sound, only the sound of the wind. They went back in, then a few minutes later, they heard the scream again. They came out and the same as the previous time they heard nothing. Both of those families discussed it and decided to wait for the morning.
When the sun rose, they came to check the door of that house and found nothing was strange. They decided to forget that event.
In the afternoon, they heard the scream again and the scream was louder that the houses next to them heard it as well. All of them gathered in front of that house. Everyone thought they might hear wrongly but suddenly the scream echoed from inside that house making them feel not well about it. When the authority arrived, the neighbors informed them of what they heard.
At that time, there were no many cell phone users like today. It was hard to connect if someone went to a distance.
As most of them suspected there was a person kidnapped or locked inside that house, the authority decided to remove the lock but not the door lock. That house had a door and a window, they chose to break the lock of the window and opened it. Though they could not get in because the window had bars. However they could see the view inside the house. It was quiet.
The authority called, “Anyone here?” There was no answer.
As he said the second time, there was a sound of wind coming but similar to the voice of a female. Not only the authority but also the neighbors heard it. All of them were chill. Then the authority asked for bread. He took a piece then threw it into the house through the gap between the bars.
In general, each of house in Cambodia has a spirit house which we call house guardian. We usually decorate the house of guardians with pair of electric lights – in shape like a candle.
When the piece of bread that the authority threw touched the floor, the lights at the guardian house were on. About a few seconds, they were off. Then the authority threw another piece of bread. Again, the lights were on, and there was a sound of creepy voice of a female coming out.
All these things were witnessed by everyone. Their bodies’ hairs stood up, and their back spines were thrilled. They decided to close the window and returned their houses.
The day after, the family came back. The neighbors came to tell them the history especially to make clear about their window’s lock was broken. Though the family didn’t feel any fear. They just said thank to the neighbors and lived normally as before.
