I've chosen Qibli from wings of fire.
(btw, this contains a bit of spoilers for wings of fire. If u are past book 10 then u are good. The spoilers aren't explicit but they are hinted at)
Qibli flapped his wings. The sky was clear and stable, the air currents drifting him into the place he wanted to go: The Jade Mountain Academy. The trees flung past him as he soared above the sounds of newborn birds, chirping to their mothers. The deer gracefully jump over rotten, old logs and the frogs dove into the still pond waters. Qibli landed by the pond, eyeing the landscape. All his flying had made him tired. He nestled by the lillies. He never enjoyed lush forests, the constant buzzing too abissmal compared to the quiet, empty dessert. But at least forests were havens, rather than constantly being surrounded by inhospitableness.
But suddenly, he noticed something out of the corner of his eye. A talisman. It was partially stuck under a peculiar stone rock. He grabbed it, opening it up. It was mostly empty, besides a few commands. This must be magic. He thought to himself in amusement. He had no idea why else there would be a bunch of random commands in a normal piece of scroll. He decided to play along with the clearly odd conclusion. It could lead to somewhere, he guessed. He found a bit of sap on a blossoming tree and smeared it on his talon. Being philosophical, he wrote his first command: Tell me the truth. What is the world? Who created it? Why are we here?
The answer, instead of being written on paper, came out vocally in the whispering air: This is a story for children. You're a main character. Qibli's eyes widened. His whole life-a story? He could barely grasp the existentalness of those words. His hopes, fears, dreams, and every aspect of himself was fabricated by some powerful being he had no idea of beforehand. He wanted to sit down and cry, or do something and finally realize that he had no control over any of his choices.189Please respect copyright.PENANAcDNaYVTfIN
He knew a few things instantly: he couldn't leave the story. He would have to keep his main character status. But, he could speak to his creator, and barter for his future. If he told this to anyone else, then the author would be in jeopardy. He sighed joyously, wondering about all the things he could've ever wanted in his future. And he knew that he had to make it the best life story anyone would want to live.
Suddenly, he felt the ground crumble below him. He flapped his wings. "This isn't going to work! You can't erase me!" He yelled, desperation filling his lungs. This better work. He thought.
Then what do you want? I have the leverage here. The ground below him shifted into writing that answer with vines.
"I wouldn't tell a soul. I wouldn't even hint at it." Qibli explained. "This is a children's story. What you need is a good story, and a happy and totally-satisfying-the-fanbase ending. I can help. We can write the craziest villains, the weirdest plot twists. You've made me smart, and lucky, after all. But we have to come to some terms of agreement."
The ground shifted again. Qibli desperately continued to flap his wings, the idea of dropping down a bit too terrifying at the moment. Despite that, Qibli tried to maintain his cool. What terms?
"Well, firstly, I want to live in the end. And I want to defeat the bad guy too. Wait-I actually have a list of items, if you're willing to bear with me." Qibli cleared his throat and shook himself, hoping that it would get rid of all his anxiety, even momentarily. "First of all, I want to get together with a love interest by the end. Secondly, I want to befriend many other dragons and leave the continent in better shape than before. I want to also be one of the sole reasons that everyone wins in the first place. It should be like a last minute save when everything is all going wrong but then bam! Qibli's in the house! Then I mostly singlehandedly save everyone. I also don't want anyone to die, even the villain. If we can fit some sort of redemption ark for them that would be nice, but if not then we'll figure something out. I want the fanbase out there to love and adore me by the end. I'll have clear and recognizable flaws that are fixed. And maybe I get superpowers-or I decline superpowers which would make me look really heroic! That'll work too. I want to entertain, too. I want there to be crazy powerful villains and epic battles. If I'm starring in this, then this'll have to be the best plotline the world has ever seen. But we'll work on it, don't worry. And everyone is happily ever after-or at least me. Yeah, I think that'll work." 189Please respect copyright.PENANAbxnB9PXjoD
Unbearable silence followed this. Qibli watched as the vines below him started to churn, but then came to a standstill. So are we doing this, or what? Qibli grinned. He was about to make himself the most epic hero the world had ever seen.
