Once I finally got Rye to agree to take me to Alpha James’ to get some clothes since he did not want me going back into that house for longer than necessary. I decided it was for the best not to tell him about the phone call between Jaden and I.
The entire drive to the house, I was on edge, thinking about that phone call. What would I even do? I obviously have a choice I have to make, but the questions is who do I choose? I stole a sideways glance a Rye and smiled. It was comforting to know that he cared as much as he did and there are so many traits about him that are loveable, but I’ve been told for years that I am going to be Luna. That’s a lot of responsibility. Sure, Anna and Alpha James may not respect me all that much, but they allowed me to step into their son’s life when he needed me most. And Jaden, protective Jaden. Everyone thinks he doesn’t have a kind bone in his body because of his reputation as future Alpha, but I’ve seen different… But if I leave him, what then? What will become of him and this pack?
You are not Luna yet and are not his mate, that is not your responsibility. Think about the one who is sitting next to you more. My wolf reminded gently. She is right. I stole another sideways glance at Rye, but he was already looking at me. I blushed slightly and looked out the window, watching the trees blur by in the night.
“Penny for your thoughts?” Rye asked suddenly, breaking the silence. I thought for a moment, contemplating just coming clean and telling him about the phone call, but then I decided against it.
“I’m just worried about facing Jaden or Alpha James.” I told him and then added in after thought, “I don’t like this having to choose between the two of you.”
He either didn’t have anything to say or anything he wanted to say because he stayed quiet until we pulled into the driveway. Everything was eerily quiet; there were no cars parked and the house was dark.
Did we miss a pack event? My wolf asked. I ignored her paranoia and got ready to hop out of the truck. Rye placed his hand on my upper arm. I looked up at him and saw something—pain, maybe? —floating in his green orbs.
“I don’t like this, Stutterbug. It seems to set up. I should come with you.” He stated. I didn’t like the idea of him and Jaden in the same room; I shook my head, hoping he’d understand why. He let go of arm, letting me get out of the truck and slip inside of the house hopefully quickly and quietly.

A cold wind whooshed by causing goosebumps on my forearms to form suddenly. I was finishing packing, grabbing the essentials. I looked up, around, and tried to figure out what had happened. I couldn’t sense anything.
“You know, Darling, I didn’t think you would actually show up.” I heard him say from behind me. He chuckled, getting closer. “I really thought I was going to have to make you see it my way.” He whispered, now right behind me, in my ear. He grabbed me at my hip, pulling my shirt up slightly so he could touch me skin to skin. There was no heat, no buzz, like there is with Rye. Jaden’s fingers are rough and calloused, not soft and inviting. He gripped me hard on my hip and turned me around forcefully so I could face him. He leaned down to kiss me furiously. I always liked kissing Jaden; it was nice to know someone liked kissing me. When he pulled away, his dark blue eyes looked almost black in the darkness lit only by the moonlight streaming in though the cracks in the curtain. His hands were still on my hips, a little too tight.
“I’m n-not s-staying, Jay… I-I’m s-sorry.” I whispered. He needed to know. I wasn’t planning on staying here with him. I had made my choice and it was not him. He growled lowly as he moved his hands up from my hips, grazing my sides, until they grabbed my breasts. One in each hand. He squeezed each hard and kept my whimper silent.
“You are choosing him over me? That stranger over the Alpha wolf who took you in when you had no one!” he spat. My wolf growled at him calling my mate a stranger, but I tried to calm her down. He glanced to the bed and saw my duffel bag full of clothes. Realizing I was packing to leave, pure anger flashed in his eyes. He threw the duffel across the room, its contents spilling out in front of me. “You are not going anywhere, Darling! YOU ARE MINE! AND I’M ABOUT TO MAKE SURE YOU NEVER FORGET IT!” He roared, throwing me onto the bed, slamming my head on the bed frame in the process. He then grabed the hair at the base of my neck and pulled to where the entire side of neck was exposed. My eyes widened in fear, shock, and betrayal as to what he was about to do.
He’s about to mark me. Against my will.
“J-Jay! What a-are you d-doing?!” I screamed, tears coming down my face. All he did was growl and pull my hair harder, exposing my neck. He licked up neck and kissed it until I moaned involuntarily, finding my sweet spot, and before I could stop him, he extended his canines and bit into my neck.
