“Break your chains and fly with me,” the Angel said, looking at the male human-like demon in front of him.
“How? How can I? I don’t have the strength,” the Demon told him, looking up from his prison.
“Easy. Just remember me.”
“Remember you? I have no idea who you are. Why are you taking an interest in me, a demon?”
“Because you’re beautiful,” the Angel said softly, kneeling down on one knee.
The Demon’s eyes widened, “Me? Beautiful? Why do you spread lies! That's all you Angels do! Next, you’ll be saying I’m free just to stab me in the back! Why should-”
“Sh,” the Angel stood up and walked towards the Demon, “I am not lying. I-”
The Angel heard footsteps behind him. “Valek, why do you meet with this beast? You know it’s against the Laws for us to have contact with them.”
“I know it is. But I will throw away my righteousness to save them,” the Angel said to the voice.
“They can’t be saved and you know that! But I must report this and your wings will be stripped,” the voice told the Angel solemnly, “But I won’t stop you, if you really believe it will work.”
“Very well, Deshel. I will accept what is coming. Now leave, if you don’t wish to die.”
“I will miss you dearly, Valek. Goodbye,” the voice walked away.
The Angel turned to the Demon and walked forward to him. “Again, break your chains and fly with me.”
“We went over this. I can’t! Even if I did, why should I trust you?” the Demon asked.
“Because I love you.”
“Wh-what?”
“I love you.”
“How can you love me without ever seeing me?”
“Maybe I can help you remember,” Valek kneeled down and hugged the Demon, his wings covering their bodies.
Visions clouded the Demon's mind. They were of him and the Angel, happily flying in Heaven, courting one another.214Please respect copyright.PENANAQmPOCzUsHP
The Demon’s eyes widened again, “I-I’m sorry…”
“I was sad when you left. My heart was broken. I searched for you for many millennia, and now I found you,” the Angel let go of the Demon, “Now, break your chains and fly with me.” The Angel took a few steps away from the Demon and flew up into the lightless sky.
The Demon stared up for what seemed like forever until he finally got the strength to try. He struggled against the chains for a few seconds. Eventually, his chains broke and he stood for the first time in too long. His wings unfolded and he saw they were black feathers, not bat-like wings.
He then looked up again and flew up high into the sky, a little bit past the opening of his prison. He looked to one side and saw the Angel. Then to the other side and saw the gates of Alestrium.
He wanted to keep flying, free as a bird. Freedom was like a drug to him. He could conquer anything now it seemed.
But that was only for a second.
Again, he looked at the Angel and to Alestrium.
He made his choice.
The Demon flew to the angel and embraced him.
"I love you, my dear."
