The AELON were on a path to certain defeat. The August Line, the first defense of the continent, fell after nearly three years of friction. The Istul Line collapsed in a matter of days following. Every battle that the AELON had fought resulted in a loss or the complete destruction of an army. Even the Battle of Serrmolos, a battle revered by historians and soldiers alike that was considered to be the first true victory executed by the alliance was no more than a tactical victory. The lack of strategic influence the battle had on the wider front resulted in nothing short of a delay in the eyes of the Confederacy. By the month of Julen, the combined armies of the west numbered over one million. This number continued to dwindle as the commanders of Alben, Vrannken, the Laulanen, and Ameriken withheld their forces from the frontlines to protect the Renen Line. But it was a mistake to forsake the penultimate hope for the allied states.11Please respect copyright.PENANAGNehTNpEnL
Ivan Kolchakov, the Grand Marshal and Commander of the Rus Armies, declared his intention to sweep through the remainder of the hostile continent within a year. Although a bold move, he was not met with critique but with support, including that of Regulus von Eos, then-colonel. Eos was assigned to produce a strategy that could surmount the Wada Line. He chose to lead an expeditionary force of a meager size and overcame the river near its widest point on the night of a new moon, landing in Letsching Field, a great plains just over a hundred leagues east of the Zhermanner capital. By the following evening, Johannes Meyer, the Grand Marshal and Commander of the Zhermanner Armies, had defected upon learning of the fall of the Wada and the imminent arrival of the main Confederate army, a ruse penned by Eos himself. Although the colonel had drafted a plan that would have aided the surrender of the Zhermanner nation, Meyer did otherwise and executed his political opponents, including the King of Lechen and his family. The kingdom entered the Meyer Regency, sanctioned by Kolchakov, but it caused much bloodshed that Eos hoped to have avoided.11Please respect copyright.PENANASp6Fs0r4Fm
Regardless, the very chance that the AELON had in hopes of staying the East’s advance narrowed. The great nation that formed the core of the alliance had surrendered and defected. All that remained for the Confederacy to do was to eradicate the Renen Line and the continent would be theirs.11Please respect copyright.PENANAoIRfkeM0Eu
