Yesterday, we won a great victory. The first victory that our alliance have won since this war began. At least, that is what the press claims. But it did not feel that way. We were on the verge of defeat. Our lives were in the hands of another. I could have been killed. We could have been killed. Perhaps, worse. I sometimes wonder why had I ever joined the army. For what purpose? I thought that we would be celebrated heroes, that I was to march down an avenue of a great city in a parade with girls leaping into my arms and thanking me for my bravery. It was for this reason why I have put up with such torture for the time being. If I was to ever become that person, then I would have to train hard and fight hard. It was the only thing I thought I could ever do.16Please respect copyright.PENANAFQN8R2kDNf
If this was fate, then I could not have avoided it. I would be content if I did my best despite all the ambitions I have for myself. But I had hoped that this victory would sweeten the bitterness of the blood on my hands. However, I have learnt that there is nothing heroic about winning a battle. I simply believed in a lie. What is the point in victory if we are just going to flee? What were all those deaths for? What did I kill for? To follow orders? Warneńczyk’s men seem to be in good spirits. They heed the general without question. Whatever was needed of them, they did, like dogs to their master. But now, I doubt everything that is thrown at me. I am sure I am not the only one who thinks so.16Please respect copyright.PENANAn4BjPvJ7k3
As if their sacrifices meant nothing, we packed our bags and fled. We did not bury the dead. The land that was once green is now black. I have to ignore everything that I was taught to care for. I am such a fool.16Please respect copyright.PENANAr59kz2hyFS
