When I was a teenager, I strongly disliked attention seekers. I internally looked down on them and their actions, thinking I was "better" because I kept to myself. Because I didn't embarrass myself in front of others. Because I wasn't a fool who'd do such a thing.
But as an adult, I look at the people who others, and myself, call "attention seekers", and I ask, why are they doing this?
To seek attention.
Yes, but why? Why do they want that attention? To feel acknowledged? Loved? Appreciated? What is it? Why do they want that attention so much? And is bad that they want it?
Unless they're harming themselves or others, then I don't think seeking attention is such a bad thing.
I work with children now, and children seek a lot of attention. I give it to them. What matters is how I give the attention.
I guess adults seeking attention defers from children. But I think, ultimately, the reasons for seeking attention, whether it's done by children, teens or adults, are the same. I try to put myself in their perspective. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I still lack the understanding, but that's okay because I've removed the bias I had against them.
Although, some people who seek attention for bad reasons, I don't give it to them, and you guys shouldn't either.
