Walking back to our assigned dormitory, Jerem, Knox, and I were still buzzing with the events of the day. Knox's playful chicken nugget theft during lunch had lightened the mood, but the encounter with the man I soon found out who's name was Silas; in the cafeteria lingered in the back of my mind. Now, as we approached our shared living quarters, a mix of anticipation and apprehension washed over me.
I checked over the rosters; forgetting my room number for a second. Realising that it also provided my roommate's name on the roster, I squinted my eyes and dragged my finger down the list; with Jerem's head poking out from behind me to see who was in my room. Silas, the enigmatic figure who had ignited both curiosity and fear within me, would be my roommate.189Please respect copyright.PENANAKIvlT0BiFc

"Fucking hell. That's him? The one who I had a fight with?"
I wailed, holding my head. Jerem pursed his lips and slapped a hand over his mouth, trying hard not to giggle.
"Oh, fuck off dude. What if he kills me in my sleep?"
Knox stepped up beside me, and placed a hand on my shoulder.
"Good luck."
"What? I thought you said you'd protect me!"
"Yeah, if I don't get killed. I don't have a death wish right now."
I rolled my eyes and let out a loud groan, as Jerem and Knox headed back to their own dorms. Stepping into the dorm, I noticed the simplicity of our room. My belongings were minimal, reflecting my recent arrival at the school. In contrast, Silas had an impressive collection of books, a testament to his intellectual pursuits. As someone who had developed a newfound love for literature after reading "Little Women," the sight of those books called to me like a siren's song, tempting me to explore the world they held within their pages.
Unable to resist, I found myself drawn to Silas's bed where the books were neatly arranged. Should I respect his privacy, or should I succumb to my insatiable curiosity? The desire to delve into those pages won, and I selected a book at random, settling on the floor to immerse myself in its contents.
Lost in the words, I failed to notice Silas's return until his imposing figure leaned against the door frame. His piercing gaze bore into me, and a shiver ran down my spine. The silence between us was pregnant with unspoken tension, intensifying the already charged atmosphere. I quickly closed the book, returning it to its rightful place, my heart pounding in my chest as if I had been caught in the act.
With a silent stride, Silas passed by me, heading for the bathroom. The sound of running water filled the room, amplifying the nervous energy that coursed through me. I avoided direct eye contact, my gaze fixed on the floor. Silas's voice cut through the silence, dripping with a warning that sent chills down my spine.
"Keep your hands off my things, Zayn,"
Silas growled, his voice carrying a dangerous edge. He knew my name.
"Curiosity killed the cat, remember?"
I swallowed hard, my mouth suddenly dry. I nodded, unable to find my voice. Silas's presence was a potent mix of intimidation and allure, drawing me in even as it sent shivers down my spine.
Our initial encounter had been marked by conflict, but beneath the surface, something unspoken lingered—a connection that defied easy categorization. I couldn't help but wonder what lay beneath Silas's imposing exterior, and if there was more to our tumultuous relationship than met the eye. I noticed his knuckles were wrapped with bandages, probably from our fight; and thinking about it, made the ghost of pain hit my ribs.
Silas's warning echoed in my mind, a constant reminder of the fine line I walked. Yet, despite the fear, a part of me couldn't help but be drawn to the enigma that was Silas—the secrets hidden in the pages of his books, and the enigmatic depths of his soul. He had to have more than an intimidating figure within him. God knows what. But now I knew, luck wasn't on my side.
