I was about to head back to my room after drinking some water when I heard a knock at the door. I went to the front door and slightly opened it to see who it was. I smiled when I recognized who it was, but then I realized that I was supposed to be upset at him. I quickly gathered myself and pretended that I didn't know him and wasn't all that excited to meet him after a week of not seeing him.
We haven't seen each other in a week, and I still haven't responded to his messages. I've ghosted him since that night. To be honest, I stopped getting upset with him after a day or two, but I can't forgive him that easily. I treated him like a friend and told him everything. On his birthday, I even made him dessert, which is something I seldom do unless it's for a close friend. Even though it's incredibly simple to make, you simply need to combine everything and add water if it's too sweet, but I still made it for him. The least he could've done was tell me that he's this guy called Bad Bunny who happens to be very famous.
I got into character and said, "Who are you?" He sighed when I asked who he was.
"Mi nombre es Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio. Veintinueve años, and people know me as Bad Bunny. I'm here because I want to see my friend and tell her that I am sorry." I can see on his face that he is really sorry, but he is an actor, so he might be acting.
"I think you're in the wrong house. My friend wouldn't keep a secret from me." I really tried my best not to break my character.
"I'm sorry. I d-"
"Wait!" I cut him off. I looked around to see if there were any other people around. I'm afraid that someone might recognize him.
"Qué pasa?" He asked, but I didn't answer. I pulled him inside the house, and I closed the door.
"You already said what you want to say, so you can leave." I told him.
"I'm sorry. I just don't know how to tell you." he said but I didn't believe him.
"It's not that you don't know. You just don't want to tell me. Did you think I would take advantage of your fame or your money? Is that why you didn't tell me?" I asked, and if he says yes, I'll cut him off completely.
"No. I never once thought of that. It was just so much fun spending time with you and doing normal things. I don't often meet someone who only wants to be friends with me and not more than that. If I had told you from the start, you would've treated me differently." he said. Good, I like his answer.
"Yes. I would've treated you like a king or something." I told him. To be honest, he is right. I would've treated him differently if I knew from the start that he was famous. I might even think that he just wanted to bed me or something like that.
"See. That's why I didn't tell you." He said. I glanced at him from head to toe, like I was assessing him or something. I even crossed my arms.
"Do you know how shocked I was when my cousin showed me your music video? I didn't believe it at first, even though you look exactly like Bad Bunny. I still had doubts until we Googled your name and your information and pictures appeared. You even made a playlist of your songs on Spotify. We fudgin' listened to your songs, and you didn't even tell me a thing." I said, punching him on the shoulder as I start getting annoyed again.
"I'm sorry. I know I'm a jerk, and as a sorry gift, I got you some nuts." He said, and showed me the paper bag he was holding.
Nuts? I smiled as soon as he said that word and I forgot that I was supposed to be upset at him. "What type of nuts?" I asked while looking at the jar of nuts inside the paper bag. I love nuts.
"Mixed nuts. There's hazelnuts, almond nuts, cashew nuts-" I didn't wait for him to finish before snatching up the bag he was holding.
"I'll forgive you this time because of the nuts." I told him, and he grinned. I sighed internally. I can't believe I gave in just because of some nuts. Am I that simple-minded?
I dragged him to the living room and said, "Now that we're okay, let's watch Bullet Train. I want to watch your movie with Brad Pitt."
"Can we watch a different movie?" He asked as we went to the living room.
"No way. This is your punishment for not being honest with me." I told him.
I turned on the TV and told him to sit wherever he wanted. I opened my Netflix account and typed Bullet Train into the search field. "By the way, I know it's late, but congratulations on winning a Grammy. I would've congratulated you the night you won if you had told me." I told him, and I could see the guilty look on his face. I watched his performance at the Grammys, and it was really fun.
"I'm sorry." He said.
The movie started playing, so I sat next to him while munching on my peanuts. The movie is really good and very fun to watch. The movie has a lot of backstories. Beni's backstory is exactly like a telenovela. I'm not supposed to laugh because of what happened to his wife, but it's just so funny.
"Awww, your girl is so pretty." Beni's character is named The Wolf, and he's an assassin. I gotta be honest, he's good. His eyes and his expression are just on point. It really looked like he loves the girl.
I laughed so hard when he threw the knife at Ladybug and it was deflected by the case, stabbing him in the heart instead. "Stop laughing." He said, but I just couldn't stop laughing. I don't even know why his death is so funny in the movie.
"I'm sorry. I just can't stop laughing." I told him while trying so hard to stop laughing but I just can't.
"What's so funny? Is my acting that funny?" he questioned. I shake my head while still laughing my ass off.
"No. I don't know." I giggled. I think he also got infected because he too started laughing.
"Stop!" He said while laughing, and now we're both laughing. He covered my mouth with his hand, but it didn't help. I screamed and laughed even harder when he started tickling me out of the blue.
While we were fooling around, I heard the door open and close, so I immediately looked backed. When I saw my aunt, I immediately pushed Beni away from me, causing him to fall to the floor.
"We didn't do anything wrong!" I blurted out in panic. Why do I feel guilty? We didn't even do anything wrong.
My aunt questioned, "Ano bang sinasabi mo? (What are you talking about?)" Beni, who is now standing, turned to face my aunt, who was looking at us with a shocked expression. Oh boy, I am so dead.
"Mia, nag-imbita ka nang lalake sa bahay? (Mia, you brought a man home?)" My aunt asked.
I am so dead. My heart began to race as she moved closer to us. This is it. My aunt's probably going to tell my mom. Knowing my mom, she will probably tell me to return home. My mom is really scary, and a Filipino mom's mind just works differently.
"Napaka-gwapo naman nitong batang ito. (This kid is handsome.)" My aunt said. She cupped his face and gave him a sniff kiss on the cheek. You know when old people kiss their grandchildren? It's not really a kiss, it's more like smelling his cheeks.
Beni and I are both perplexed as we both stare at each other. Beni didn't move and simply allowed my aunt to hug him, not in a repulsive way, let me be clear. I definitely didn't anticipate this reaction. I was expecting to hear an earful from her.
"Iho, anong pangalan mo? (Son, what's your name?)" My aunt asked. She's actually smiling while looking at him.
"My aunt is asking for your name." I translated for Beni.
"Ma'am, my name is Benito. I'm sorry for coming here without notice." Beni said and my aunt chuckled and looks at me for a second before facing him again.
"Really? Benito din ang apelyedo ko noong wala pa akong asawa. (Benito was my last name when I was still single.)" My aunt said. Well, we certainly had the same reaction when I first heard his name.
"Beni, she's my aunt Maria. You can call her Tia or Tita, whichever you prefer." I told Beni and he nodded with a smile on his face.
"Tita, siya iyong nakwento ko sa inyong kaibigan ko. Hindi siya Pilipino kaya huwag mo siyang Tagalugin. Taga Puerto Rico siya, Espanyol ang salita niya at English. (Aunt, he's the friend I told you about. He's not Filipino so don't speak to him in Tagalog. He speaks Spanish and English. )" I explained to my aunt in case she keeps talking to him in Tagalog.
"Ahh, ganoon ba? Ano nga palang ginagawa ninyo? (Is that so? What were you doing with him?)" she asked.
I hurriedly replied, "We were just watching a movie." All of a sudden, she smacked me across the arm.
"Ouchy!" I winced in pain while holding the arm that she hit.
"Mia! You're being rude to our guest hah. You didn't eben gib him a snack or juice hah. Iho, I will get represhment por you." My aunt said using her Filipino accent before going to the kitchen. My aunt can speak with or without an accent. When she's talking to us, her accent just comes out naturally.
We Filipinos just don't pronounce the word V and change it to the letter B or F to P. We say eben instead of even, gib instead of give, represhment instead of refreshment, and por instead of for. We were not born and raised in the States, so we certainly wouldn't sound American. Just like when Americans, British, or other English-speaking countries, try to speak our language, which is not their native language, they will also have an accent. It's the same thing for us. People just assume that the correct way to speak English is with an American accent, but it's not. We just say or pronounce English differently than those native English-speaking people. Okay, enough about that.
"She likes you. Honestly, I actually thought she would get angry at us and think that we were doing something inappropriate. I guess your charm also works on old people." I told him, causing him to chuckle.
"I am charming." he said.
"Yeah, but you're no prince. You just give off the vibe of a villain." I told him. He would still be a hot villain though.
My aunt prepared fruit juice and biscuits for us. She was so fond of Beni that he stayed longer than expected. She even invited him to stay for dinner, but he had to decline because he had prior commitments that night. She was a little disappointed, but she did asked him to come over to eat next time. She doesn't have any idea who he is, after all, she only listens to old music.
"Where is he?! Where is he?!" Kayla asked. I turn to face my cousin, who had just walked in and was obviously rushing.
"He had to leave." I told her, and I saw the disappointment on her face. She plops down on the ground with a dejected look.
