Mark was only half-conscious when he felt the ship crash.683Please respect copyright.PENANAQFyL1DPLfV
He thought it was all a dream; but then he woke.
He found himself surrounded in flames, and the wreckage of what was once a sophisticated spaceship, that belonged to aliens - a situation that seemed to defy all scientific logic.
But then he spotted Cassidy lying motionless a couple of metres away from him.
"Cassidy! CASSIDY!" He cried, louder than he had ever done before.
Cassidy had a large wound on his torso that seemed to just keep bleeding and bleeding.
The rest of his body was covered in scratches and bruises.
He moaned quietly.
"Mark, I'm so sorry..." he croaked.683Please respect copyright.PENANA6TK0bPeuyD
"Cass... hang on, right? I'll get help..."
"No..." His voice was getting fainter by the moment.
"Cassidy!"
"But... we'll always be... best friends, right?"
Mark paused.
"Yes. Yes, always."
"Even if I... really was... an alien all... all this time..."
"Always. Always! Just... don't leave me..."
"I'm... so... sorry..."
"CASSIDY!"
Cassidy closed his eyes and exhaled for the last time.
Mark couldn't stop the steady trickle of tears that erupted from his eyes.
He held the body of his best friend close.
"Yes. We'll always, always be best friends." He whispered. "And I don't care if you really were an alien all this time. I never would have cared.
"But everyone needs friends. And best friends. Even aliens.
"And I'm so glad you were mine."
