Chapter 8
The guy in the red and blue mask came up on stage out of nowhere. He didn’t even make a single footstep. He just showed up.
“Why hello there! I see we already got into a little bit of a scuffle before the class even started. Well I’m a man of second chances, so i’ll give you guys a warning. But if anything like that happens again I will expel you! Got it?”
The two guys who were fighting stepped away from each other and looked over at Yurinami and they both apologized. The girl also apologized, even though she didn’t need to.
“Good.” Yurinami responded back. “Now first things first. I need to get a good introduction from you all, my beautiful and talented students.”
Yurinami pointed at the guy with the white shirt. “What’s your name?” He asked.
“The name is Fred Purpintine.” The guy in the white shirt responded.
“Hm, Fred Purpintine, what a nice name. Can you also tell me why you decided to join my school?” Yurinami questioned.
“To prove to my dad that I'm no pushover!” Fred said with utmost confidence as he put his fist to his heart.
Yurinami laughed. “Now that is some fighting spirit!” Fred stood there as Yurinami pointed at the next guy.
“My name is Ian Oprentis.” He announced. “And this is my sister Penny Oprentis. We both came here for the same reason. Because our parents forced us to.”
“Oh my, a sibling duo. Hm.” Yurinami said as he leaned forward.
“Is that a bad thing!?” Ian barked.
“Calm down Ian please! It hasn’t even been an hour yet you almost got into a fight, and now you’re snapping back at the teacher!” Penny said, putting her hand on Ian’s chest, as to stop him from walking forward.
“Sorry.” Ian apologized. “Continue.”
Yurinami pointed at the girl who was sitting in a chair, looking down at the ground. She didn’t respond.
“Hey! Girl in the chair!” Fred yelled. “He’s asking you for your name and why you’re here!” The girl looked up from the chair.
“My name is Jesse Daster, and I'm here for no good reason.” She said.
Yurinami, not questioning her further, pointed at Slinca.
“The name is Slinca Forshest, and I'm here to improve my fighting skills while also growing as a person.” Slinca bowed. “I’m so glad that you’re going to be my teacher, and I'm very excited to be here!” I’ve never even seen her like this before. Is she trying to get on his good side? Yurinami then pointed at me.
“Ah! U-u-um. My name is Lee Pulpis.” I paused. I knew the next question I needed to answer was, why am I here. But, I don’t know why I'm here. Even though I was super excited to be here and actually be able to fend for myself. It felt like I had no purpose being here, everyone else had a good reason to be here besides me. Have I been over my head? Do I really belong here? Alongside these much stronger people than I will ever be.
Slinca slapped me on the shoulder. “Come on Lee! You can answer it!” She exclaimed. “Don’t worry, even if your reason is stupid doesn’t mean you shouldn’t belong here.”
I couldn’t believe it. I stood there in shock, it’s like she read my mind or something. Those words. They gave me enough courage to finally give my answer.
“I’m here to be stronger than my brother!” I shouted, not realizing my voice was even that loud.
Yurinami must’ve seen the look in my eyes through his mask. He must’ve seen how determined I looked.
“Perfect.” He said.
