Time has run out. It is now impossible for me to press on any longer. I have been BLINDED by what I thought to be true. The face I had seen in the window, or so I claimed, was only a bitter reflection. Its face of glazed eyes, scalping head, and other horrors, now belongs to me. Mad! they say, not bothering to think.
Mad! they exclaim, my hopes beginning to sink.
A demon! a freak! from hell, no less.
Take him down from his place and force him to rest.
Led to my fate and strapped to a chair,
I stare down at the town in despair.
“Cowards!” I shout. “You can’t get past what you feel!
The illusion you’ve made for yourself you believe to be real!
I’m not a monster, beast, nor freak!
The cowardice you hide behind makes you weak!
I have the intelligence of a man, and emotions of a sort, just as you!
But you have BLINDED yourself, disguising what is true.”
