Author's note: It is revealed! I hope that by this point, you were able to guess the special thing about our lovely main character, but if not, now's your chance to find out. Thanks for reading up to this point, and I hope you like this latest chapter.
Merry Christmas!!! I'm officially changing my favorite holiday to Christmas. Instead of my usual books and clothes, "Santa" brought me HEARING AIDS! I know how expensive they are and my surgeries cost a lot already, so I've never asked for them; Mom got them of her own volition. I always thought I could function well on my own. I can hear some things, like the fire alarm, but voices have always been muffled. Just another reality of my life that's about to go away. Oh, I'm so EXCITED!
When I opened the box, I was confused at first. It was about the size of a retainer box, but softer. I was so nonplussed, I wasn't even sure what to say. Of course, my grandfather had to be disagreeable and contrary about them. He thinks they're as unholy as glasses. He's such a grumpy old curmudgeon.
For once, I actually can't wait for school to start. I want to hear Ina's voice. Even if we just prate and talk about nothing, it'll be fun. It'd probably make her even funnier.
I guess having this journal isn't so bad after all. I can't wait to start describing all the sounds I hear. Right now, I'm listening to the rain. It's such a calming sound, like the pulsing beat of rock music through a balloon. I'm so glad I can hear it else at last.
Word of the day: petrichor.
In case you didn't know, petrichor means the sound of rain. But I'm sure you knew that because I've said it before. Thank you, thank you, thank you for reading this story all the way through, and if you liked this even a little, please, share this with your friends, because sharing is caring. I hope you liked this little journal. Shadow out!
