The townies woke on hearing loud bangs and to see a huge cloud of smoke in the dead of the night as the moon shone from the clear desert sky.
Tamara, a milkmaid hypothesized that the brothers had set Mr. Ford's farm on fire as they threatened to do.
But when the locals reached the place from where the fire originated, all they saw were Gold-Tooth James and Bald Jed tied to a post and their goons lying on the cold, hard ground with bullet wounds.
The post was on fire and as the flames engulfed the two brothers, all they said was that the boy was back. The people of Pueblo Extrano were overjoyed for their days of living in constant terror were over. They held a party then and there. Old Man Ford brought his best eggs and roosters to be fried, Tamara brought her creamiest milk and tangiest cheese from her pantry and Eve hosted the celebrations at her inn.
While the party raged on she noticed that the stranger wasn’t there.
