Mummy Dearest,
Thank you for your lovely letter.
Since I have regained control of my life, one of the most wonderful feelings that I have experienced has been the love, care and concern that I have received from you.
You have loved me, and Rose, and Hugo without wavering. I can’t thank you enough for that.
My children are wonderful. They are precious jewels of enormous value. If I do nothing else in my life, I will be happy that I gave birth to them and then nurtured and cared for them to the best of my ability.
I know that you feel the same about me.
I deeply regret that I hurt you by cutting myself off from you all those years ago. I restored your memories of me. You and Dad forgave me for the way that I removed myself from your life. Then I introduced Ronald Weasley to you, and it all went downhill from there. Dad was quite right; I was crazy to think about marrying him.
When I did marry Ronald Weasley, I was not in control of my own mind.
The horrible truth is that the former headmaster of our school placed enchantments on me to protect his own plans for the war against Tom Riddle and his Death Eaters. These enchantments attached me to Ronald and separated me from Harry.
I was a threat to the control that Dumbledore was exerting over Harry. Harry was a vital part of his plan. That plan finally worked. The fact that there were other less destructive ways of defeating Riddle did not seem to matter to Dumbledore. I don’t want to say any more about him. It is too depressing.
My news today is that I have finally been able to do the thing that you urged me to do all those years ago. From my third year at Hogwarts, you read my letters and saw in them the way that I talked about Harry. You were absolutely right. I was besotted with him. I have discovered that after being released from my mental prison, I am still besotted with him.
Harry feels the same way about me. He got the same horrible treatment to turn him away from me.
Harry is now free and through a monumental legal blunder is also free from his marriage to Ginvera.
Harry has proposed to me, and I have accepted him. We now have a merged family of five wonderful children who can’t wait for the wedding day. They have all told us both to hurry up.
I will be back at Hogwarts teaching until the summer break. We want to bring the tribe to Australia for a beach wedding near your place at Byron Bay.
Please write back with dates in July that are good for you. We will bring a lot of guests. One of them has a private yacht which is more like a small cruise liner. He and his lovely wife will send it out to Australia to provide accommodation for the horde.
If you want to invite anyone from the U.K. to come, Harry will pay for their fares and accommodation. Don’t worry about the expense, this is petty cash for Harry.
When you write to me, please use the address above. This is Bill and Fleur’s house. They will forward your letters to me at Hogwarts.
Please write soon.
Love,
Hermione

Dear Dad,
Thank you for calling me.
I must admit that your call was the first that I have received from the other side of the world on my mirror phone. Usually, I get calls from my business connections here in Britain.
I am writing back to you by snail mail because I don’t have access to the internet from Potter Manor. Remember that I left the outside world in 1991 and at the time I was an underprivileged child. I had seen home computers, but I had never used one. The Wizarding World has done everything possible to ignore such technology. The company that I have a share in has been leading in the push to introduce items such as cell phones which we call mirror phones. We call them mirror phones because we conceal the phone inside a handheld mirror. We are having success, but it is slow work. Computers with internet connections will come one day, probably in form of a large mirror phone. Then I will be able to use email.
I will now try to answer your questions, which are all entirely reasonable and must be answered.
Question 1. Is the Wizarding World a safe place?
No. The Wizarding World is not a safe place. Every magical person carries a deadly weapon. Magical and mundane citizens depend on wand carriers being responsible and competent users of magic. I admit that many wand carriers are not responsible or competent. The worst situations arise when the wand carrier has evil intent and is magically competent. Individual personal safety is not guaranteed. We must be able to defend ourselves. Our education system devotes a significant amount of time to training every student to defend themselves.
Question 2. Does the Wizarding World have laws and a police force?
Yes, there are laws, and yes, there are police. The Watch is the everyday police, and the Aurors are the detectives and tactical response police. I was once an Auror. Political interference in law enforcement is a common problem.
Question 3. Is the Wizarding World democratic?
In some countries, magical governments are democratic. In Britain, the Wizengamot is the law-making authority and the law court. Wizengamot membership is hereditary, like the original House of Lords. It is not a democracy.
Question 4. Am I hopeful for the future?
Yes, I am hopeful. The established political powers are slow to change. Arguing with them is not going to speed up the changes we need.
There is one part of magical life which is open to reform. Magicals are crazy for organized sport. The biggest sport in Magical Britain is quidditch.
I am going to encourage the introduction of mundane sports like cricket and football. If I can get magical kids to participate in mundane sports, then we can reasonably expect to get teams from magical schools to compete in mundane competitions.
This will do more to open magical minds to new ideas than any amount of political argument ever could.
Question 5. Are our children showing signs of being damaged by our failed marriages?
Yes, they are. James is the least impacted. Rose and Albus are too passive and try to hide their feelings. Lily and Hugo have the best chance of a good life. Hermione and I are aware of the kid’s issues. We are going to do everything we can to give our children the care that they need. Hermione and I will continue to get help for our own issues.
Please write back with more questions.
I won’t lie to you about the problems we face.
Hermione and I are going to work to make the magical world a better place.

Ginevra
I know that you have refused to accept the offer that my lawyers have sent to you.
Please be realistic.
The Wizengamot will not go back and restore the Wizarding Marriage legislation. It has all been repealed.
They are debating about what to do about all the unmarried mothers such as yourself. Until they do something, you are prevented by antiquated wizarding law from earning a living as a journalist.
Don’t expect them to restore the privileges that you once had under the separation agreement. The Wizengamot is, as usual, driven by self-interest.
Under the Wizarding Marriage legislation, you were allowed to claim full support from your separated spouse because you had at least two children aged eleven from the marriage.
I am not going to give you that kind of money.
I know that I am a bitter disappointment to you. I am not going to become the leader of the masses that you wanted me to be.
That is not me. I don’t want to do it.
I will not have you left out in the cold either.
The offer still stands.
You can move back to The Burrow and look after your mother. I will pay you the usual wage you would get as a carer.
Your father can not do it on his own. He needs to have respite from the stress.
Your mother is demented and will not accept people other than the family coming to the house.
She will accept you living there.
Your brothers and the children will visit as they normally do.
Please be reasonable.
