When I woke up, I thought what happened was a dream. Normally, nothing good ever occured around me, but maybe Ness was my good luck charm. She was laying on my arm, which was weak from her laying on it last night. As I saw her laying there, I brushed hair out of her face with my hand and just watched her sleep. She was like a baby, so quiet and peaceful. I fell back asleep as I felt her breath across my chest.
A few more hours passed and I peeked open my left eye, to see Ness staring right back into mine. She looked at me like I was the most handsome man in the world.216Please respect copyright.PENANAqGZ4qaGXRl
"Good morning, how long have you been up?" I quizzed, as I ran my hands through my hair to fix it.216Please respect copyright.PENANA1WSL41hqc9
"Not very long. You just looked so cute , that I let you continue to sleep" she said with reddened cheeks.216Please respect copyright.PENANAUcPPRJlRwJ
"Oh, okay" I concluded as I sat up, letting her see my face.216Please respect copyright.PENANAm3ZTqEcIk8
"So what's the plan for today?" I questioned. I was waiting for her to claim the next adventure, everything we did together was an adventure. No matter how boring other people thought it may have been.216Please respect copyright.PENANAJvTcdhJD8E
"We are almost to the place I want to take you, before we head to my parents." She answered.216Please respect copyright.PENANA8ZOIwyvz9b
"Where did you want to take me? I demanded.216Please respect copyright.PENANAl1Y7JI5LEU
"You will see. I promise that you will love it. If you are similar to me, this will be an interesting day for you." She confused me. What did she mean by interesting. That's not a very common word to describe something somebody might like.216Please respect copyright.PENANAHKZcNpPjHF
I normally hated going places that I hadn't. With Ness, I did not mind it. I enjoyed spending time with Ness whether it was going through traumatic times or eating something together.216Please respect copyright.PENANAjcZMusm5Tr
When we arrived at the location, not a cloud was in sight. The beautiful weather was the pinnacle for exploration. I ran out to the body of water. I had a visual, the water brushed across the land, and the waves curled before they splashed the sand.216Please respect copyright.PENANAH0g1ouqpNh
"This was all part of the trip that I had planned." She claimed216Please respect copyright.PENANAx0RIHE59PC
"Really?" I exclaimed.216Please respect copyright.PENANAoIYcTZR1Bw
"Yes." She sullenly swore. She grinned in a lovable way, as her dimples indented her cheekbones. She smiled at me as she looked into my eyes at which point I felt like she was looking at my soul, my eyes dilated.
We walked along with the location where the sand and water integrated, somewhat moist. The sand slid between my toes and the waves washed the sand away. Sometimes life was like that, where something would happen and get washed away.
Forgiveness was something that I was not very fond of. But, I must admit Ness made me forgive people in my past who have done me wrong. She had a sense of utopian society, a sense of balance like she was a superior. When I first met her I thought it was a sense of arrogance and bossiness, but it wasn't. It was just a wall she put up, a facade, so people didn't get close to her. She was just like me.
Ness out of sight, changed clothes. She came back. She had put on a blue bikini, that was high waisted and complemented her eyes perfectly. Ness slowly started to wade her way steadily into the water. Starting with her legs, she stood there for a moment while her body got acclimated. She drifted to the deepest part. The bottom of the body of water was unable to be seen from the surface. As she dove down under the water she came back up closer to land once, and then twice again. Once she was used to the water I was in trouble. She grabbed me and pulled me into the water by my arm. It was so shocking, how fast my body got used to the cold temperatures of the water. She pulled me to the deep.
"Let's play Marco Polo" she excitedly said as her face dipped in and out of the water.216Please respect copyright.PENANA3svVEZK5qA
"Only if you go where you can reach, I don't need you drowning on me." I hoped she would listen.216Please respect copyright.PENANAyJBOEW8pQt
"No, I'm fine" she said as she sputtered water out of her mouth and coughed.216Please respect copyright.PENANAb4WN0LU1wH
I grabbed her and pulled her to shallow points of water. It was only ordinary adults having fun. To us, it was like a secluded area where we could just be ourselves not having to be in touch of reality. She pushed me away and went to the deep-end. I looked at her in fear that she may not be able to swim at such high current. You had to be a great swimmer and know the rules of swimming. Nessa did not, but she was a rebel. She would do what she wanted and not let anybody stand in her way which is why I fell in love with her. But, I did not want her to know that, because it was too early. Not only that, but the minute I got close to somebody we were like same poles of magnets that can't touch, that's why I can't be happy.
I started to sniffle as an attempt to hold back the attachment tears. She got concerned, tilted her head to the side and bubbles came up.
"What was that?" I questioned cluelessly
"I farted, and now I'm going to tickle you" she slowly stepped towards me with big steps.
I did not have the time to react, because I got caught back in my thoughts and dissociated. The possibility that "the axe was going to fall soon," I couldn't bear it. I started walking away towards the shore, suddenly I heard a splash and Ness disappeared. I looked above the water and I couldn't see her. She couldn't have gotten too far without me. The car was still visible and it was here. I dove down under the water and there she was. I saw the last bubble escape her soft lips and I knew I didn't have much time. The current was so awful but I was a greater swimmer. Her hair floated in the water as her body kept sinking. Then, she hit the bottom. My heart sank as I saw her there, it triggered a sense of urgency in me. I got to the bottom and swam up to the surface like a shark fighting for some food. I felt the warmth of her belly in my arms but her body was stationary. I used all of my upper body strength to put her up in the tall grass that was surrounded by the water, ever so slightly her body was still like death had already went through her body. I refused to lose her, because losing her I would lose myself and everything I felt towards somebody. She made me feel loved again. I pumped her chest to hopefully get her to wake up. Her heart was beating nor was she breathing. I held her nose and gave her mouth to mouth. I hoped that she would wake up, but all I felt was the cold-skinned woman she had become. The lifeless body was in my lap as I attempted to get her to breathe again. I laid her back down and continued to thrust on her chest that I swore I was breaking ribs, but it must have worked because she was breathing. I regained consciousness and she went from a pale ashen color to a full pink rosy cheeks.
"what's going on?" she looked around confused, as she was gasping for air with labored breathing.
I punched her in the shoulder playfully " you just tried leaving the earth without me you goof."
she turned lobster red as she said "I couldn't leave without you, these last few moments I've had with you will last me a lifetime," she took a deep breath as to hide her feelings.
"you have plenty of time with me, don't you worry you're pretty little brunette head." I smiled as I grabbed her shoulder in a calming way.
"I'm not so sure about that" she claimed as she turned away.
"Death will not conquer me, I am invincible." I proclaimed
"You don't know that, and you can't." she replied.
"All I know is that I love you, and nothing will change that. I will give my life for you if it meant you got to live a life that is full of memories of me, because memories of me won't fade until your memory fades and you won't forget me, I promise." I stiffened my body to hide my depressed posture. I just need you to be my dreamcatcher. Take away the nightmares of my past.
I wanted to change, and I wanted to dedicate myself to it. I grabbed a sheet of paper and told Ness I wanted to be left alone. she seemed hesitant, but went into the shelter nearby the area where we went swimming.
I felt my heart pounding and adrenalin rushing through my veins. I needed to get this off of my chest. I grabbed a notebook and I tremored to grab for a pen. "Dear Death, I've thought a lot about life and coincidences in it. How is it possible I meet Ness a girl who I want to one day marry, the same time I am diagnosed with my terminating illness. If given the chance I will marry her and be loyal to her. I want to live and explore all the things that I never did, I will set a good example for my children. I am not ready to go, and I will not be satisfied, please let me set my descendants up for success. Let me show them that I can break the cycle of abuse in my family. At least let me complete my bucket list.
with hope,
Travis.
