Chapter 2
(TW. CURSING AND SUICIDE)
AND YES. I'M PUTTING THESE IN EVERY CHAPTER THAT NEEDS IT.
Summer break is nice. I finally don't have to deal with school for a little, and I can actually get time to relax and hang out with my friends. Still have to do everything in the house, but it is a little less stressful.
Since I flunked all my grades, my dad gave me a curfew of 9 o'clock for a month. And of course, he takes away my curfew on the same day as Termination day. I know he did that on purpose. He's such an ass sometimes. He never pays attention to how much work I do.
I soon as I finished my chores, I immediately texted my friends to hang out. I could care less for anything else right now. I just finally want to do something with people. I was 7 when we all met up. I've been really regretting flunking all my finals. 2 hours is not enough time. We all decided to go to the movies because that is all we could think of. We didn't really care what the movie was, we were probably just going to talk the whole time like the shits we are. After looking at the movie list for a while, we decided to go for a horror film.
I've always had a thing for horror. I think it is just me, but I enjoy jump scares. I don't know why, but the sudden, small burst of fear as something lunges at the screen is just fascinating. My friends think I'm very weird for liking them, but when I see the shit that Devin likes... I made sure to stay away from his computer and his search history for a while.
"I hope this film doesn't have any big jumpscares. Last time, I think my heart skipped a beat. Maybe a couple of beats..." Toby said.
He's a pussy.
"Stop acting weak. You signed up for this." I said to his puny behavior.
"B-b-but I didn't"
"But your body is in front of the movie theater. Thus this is your contract to watch the movie."
"No, it's not." He was starting to get sad.
"Who's going to take you back? Your daddy? I know you're too scared to walk to your house alone." I knew what I said wasn't the best to say, because his father died due to Termination day, but I let my emotions control me.
I looked back at Toby, and he started to cry.
"FINE! I'll walk back home by myself! Maybe I won't be such a pussy then!" Then Toby ran off into the sunset, where our neighborhood was.
This isn't like Toby. He is the sweet, innocent, kid. He is the one to break the argument and fights, the one that doesn't know jack shit, and he never curses. Until now...
I had nothing to say. I don't know what exactly I looked like, but it probably looked like my jaw broke through the earth and went straight to hell. This shocked me more than the small nerdy kid beating up the huge bully jock. I stood there, watching him run as tears hit the concrete. I couldn't keep my eyes off him. Not until Devin broke the silence.
"Don't worry about him. He just gets emotional easily, remember? Now, let's watch the movie!" He exclaimed.
___
The movie was good. It used all the aspects of a regular horror movie. Creepy piano, tense areas, the villain walking slower than a snail, and of course my favorite part. Jump scares. As we left the theater, the moon was creeping up into the sky. I and Devin talked our heads off, but I never checked the time. 9:30.
Shit. My father is going to kill me.
I ran as fast as I could home, knowing that the later I am, the more he is going to kill me.
I quietly opened the door, and he was sitting in the chair.
"You're late." He said, "Listen, I know you are not used to a curfew before, but you need to be more responsible. I won't punish you this time, but next time, I will punish you so much, that you wish you didn't pass your curfew." He said, angrily
I went to my room and slept.
___
I was standing in a huge line. I looked around. The walls were huge and wide, and the floors are cracked. I couldn't smell anything, but I knew it would've smelled moldy and gross. I looked ahead of me, and what I could make out was the rooms where people were killed. I saw rooms where people drowned, burned, guillotined, fell endlessly, and many more. When I looked at mine, I saw I had the lethal injection. That is the best place to be because it is painless. I looked behind me and saw what looked like an infinite line of people, waiting for their demise. But there was light behind them. I still don't know why I didn't go to the light.
I then looked back to see that I all of a sudden became next in line. In front of me was a big huge door. In front of the door was a Government worker, who instructed me to enter the door. When I went in, I saw a medical table and a doctor, with an injection in hand. I lay on the table, and close my eyes, ready for my demise.
I heard a crumble. I opened my eyes. The doctor was gone, and the floor fell beneath me. And I followed. I couldn't say anything during this. It was like I didn't have a mouth. I fell, watching the brown crust turn to red. I looked down and saw I fell into Hell. The lava was bright and bubbly, as I was falling closer and closer to the hot lava. I head daemons laughing as my emotionless self. I finally landed in the seeping hot lava, and once again closed my eyes, ready for the death that awaits.
I opened my eyes once again, to see I was back in the same place. Then, everything repeated. But the more it repeated, the faster it got. I couldn't take it anymore. I found the closest gun and took it to my head.
___
I woke up with a jot, and then I fell off the bed.
Dad came running up and opened my door to make sure I was ok.
"Are you okay!?" He said.
"Yeah. Just a nightmare." I said back to him.
"Just wanted to make sure you weren't dying or something. Need melatonin?" He said.
"Nah." I wasn't going to get any sleep anyways.
"Okay. Good night son."
"Night."
My room was I guess a normal size for a room. My bed was in the corner of the room, and across from it was my closet. It is like a half walk-in closet. My room is painted blue, and I have some Marvel posters around the room. My room is mostly empty, except I do have a VR headset in my room. I also have a laptop on a desk where also my VR charges. Right across my bed, I have a TV and a gaming console. Too bad most of the time I have to do chores that the headset and consoles are starting to gain some dust. I also had a piano.
Piano is one of my favorite hobbies. When I was around the age of 7, I saw my Grandma play the piano, and she looked at my amazement and taught me how to play. Now, I play the piano really well, and I can play some intermediate to advanced songs. I really want to learn The Flight of the Bumblebee, but it is just too quick right now. I don't just play classical music. I also play some game music. But again, like the game consoles, I haven't played it for a long while.
I really wanted to pull an all-nighter, but I couldn't keep my eyes open if my life depended on it.
___
I woke up to my dad's footsteps because he is going to work. I didn't really mind that he woke me up. I wasn't that tired anyway. I made sure to wait to go downstairs until he left because I didn't want to make him feel guilty.
I made scrambled eggs for Breakfast today. I usually watch videos when I eat. I never find TV interesting. And those damn ads. TV ads last 5 minutes, are non-skippable and are so boring. When I watch videos on my phone, they are only 15 seconds, and some are skippable. So much better.
My neighbor's cat likes to come to our house sometimes. I think she may be abused. Eh, maybe just smells my food. Even though the name on her collar is Isabell, I just call her Bell. She is sweet to me but probably wants to murder my father. If Bell is in our house when father arrives back home, she gives him a death glare. Her eyes will not leave his face until he goes to his bedroom and closes the door. He has never gotten close to Bell, but I think he may have a couple of scratches if he does. I don't have any food for her, so I don't know why she likes to come to me, but whatever. Free Temporary pet!
I don't know how, but Bell always finds her way in. Once I finished cracking my eggs, Bell sat on the table.
"Heya, Bell," I said.
She usually is a talker, but today, she is different. She was Silent.
"Quiet today, huh? It's okay. You can talk."
Still silence.
I just moved on and kept on making my eggs. I think Bell might just be tired. Nothing to worry about. I just finished my breakfast. After that, I immediately got to my checklist of chores. Bell would usually watch me, but today she followed me when I did my chores. She is really acting weird today.
___
"It feels nice to finally be in summer," I said to Devin.
"Yeah. Sucks that Toby didn't wanna come." He said.
"Whatever. Let's get to hiking!" I exclaimed.
There is a trail about 10 minutes away from my house, and it is one of my favorite trails to walk through when I am bored. It has some pretty high cliffs, and my favorite part is climbing up to the tallest cliff and I look down. Devin does the same. But this time, we just wanted to walk the trail. We also didn't want me getting in trouble.
The hike was nice. We had a lot of conversations. Toby and his jaw-dropping innocence break, work, chores, and of course, Termination Day. We are both the same age, so we said that if we get called, then we will make sure to stay in the same line and go together. We were also making theories of what actually happens. I told him what my dream was like, and he thought that was nonsense. He told me his theory of what it looks like, and that was nonsense. After we finished our walk through the woods, we said goodbye and I went back to my house.
Father was waiting for me.
"What time is it?" I said.
"You're good. 8:45. It's just that stupid cat has been watching me all day. Can you see if the neighbors are at their house?" He asked.
"Sure!"
I went to my neighbor's house and knocked on the door. The Bakelys were very nice people. They usually answered the door.
No response.
I rang the doorbell.
No response.
I repeatedly rang the doorbell until I heard the doorbell crackle.
No response.
I turned the doorknob to make sure it was unlocked or not. It was unlocked.
I walked into the house to see if they are there. I checked the whole house and I couldn't find them. Until I checked the Bedroom.
This was the worse site I have seen. Blood stained the sheets, and the Bakelys were lifeless and pale. They looked like someone sloshed white paint all over them.
I then searched for tangible evidence of the murderer. I went up to the couple's corpses and saw something on their chests. Their Birth Certificate and the Government's symbol stuck on there. A round circle, divided into 4 sections. An eagle, a police symbol, a set of spikes, and a knife.
It was the Government.
