He was gorgeous.222Please respect copyright.PENANAwUsqLYfGzI
But then again, everyone already knew that. Even he knew that.
I mean, who would not think that the blue eyed, blonde haired prince of Melgeria was anything but gorgeous.
But he does not care about me. That's how things are. I'm just the lowly servant that washes the same dishes that he eats from. That is the way things are. But nothing wrong with dreaming, right?222Please respect copyright.PENANA9dWLF5T6a9
Till it all changed.
[0:45]
I did not mean to spill the water on him. We just both came around the corner. I quickly apologized and ran to grab a towel. By the time I came back with the towel, he was still standing there. Staring at me.
"What is your name?" he asks me.
I look down at my feet out of a mix of respect and mostly embarrassment. "Keirania."
"Keirania. That is is beautiful name." He grabbed the towel from me and started to wipe up the mess.
"Your Highness, I can do that," I say respectfully.
"It will only take a minute."
I sway back and forth, uneasy.
He handed the now damp towel back to me. "I hope to see you around, Keirania."
"Only if you wish, Your Highness." I curtsey.
"Please, Kristiano is just fine. I'll put a good word in for you, Keirania." He turned and walk down the hallway, glance back once at me.
And that was only the beginning; I should have known.
I quickly got promoted to server, then secondary cook, obviously from the "word" of Kristiano.
One week after our accidental meeting in the hallway, I was working in the kitchen cleaning after dinner.
[1:30]
"Kristiano is in the gardens. He has requested your presence," One of the butlers stood in the doorway of the kitchen.
"Is everything alright?" I dry my hands off with a napkin.
"You will have to see." He steps aside to allow me to pass.
I walk as fast as I can to the private gardens, tiding my hair and dress as I go.
Reaching the gardens, I open the gate and walk in shutting it quietly behind me. I walk down a path but stop suddenly once I see Kristiano.
He stood next to a table with two chairs. Candles were lit around the table and elegant food was set up. I looked behind a bush to find some of the other servants hiding and snickering, obviously helping set this up.
Kristiano steps to the chair closest to me and pulls it out, motioning for me to sit.
He and I sat at that table for hours afterward. Talking and laughing. He asked swarms of questions about me and answered every one I asked him.
"Wait, have you every been on the south tower balcony?" he asks me expectantly.
"No, of course not. That balcony is for the royal family only," I answer, confused.222Please respect copyright.PENANAEkc40gNMkm
"You have got to see this!" He suddenly jumps up from his chair and taps my shoulder to follow him. "Try to keep up!" he yells as he runs across the gardens and into the castle. 222Please respect copyright.PENANAktilukSgPl
I immediately run after him, trying to follow him around corners and through hallways. I turn around a corner and almost run into his back.
He stands at the bottom of a stairwell, waiting for me.
"Slow poke," he starts to run up the stairs.
I throw my head back and look up the circular stair well. The top disappears in the dark.
"Come on!" he yells, already three flights ahead of me.
I laugh then sprint up the stairs after him.
I reach the balcony out of breath. He stands at the railing looking out. I walk up next to him and gasp.
[2:25]
I could see the entire city and farms past it. The lights from the buildings teamed up with the stars to create white spots throughout and above the city.
"It's beautiful." I glance out over the scenery, taking it all in while resting my hands on the railing.
"It is."
I look over at him to find him looking at me instead of the city. I don't think he was talking about the scenery.
He covered my hand with his, looking right into my eyes.222Please respect copyright.PENANAJuAdHCLCJj
I tried to slow my racing heart.
He smiled at me.
And then my world fell apart.
[2:40]
We had been together for over a month. My world was beautiful. And now it was torn in two. 222Please respect copyright.PENANAqHEgnCou0v
Kristiano held my cheeks with his hands as he pressed his forehead against mine, before he turned and climbed into the transport that would take him off to war.
I stood there at the bottom of the steps that lead into the castle, watching the man I loved being taken off to a place that could kill him.
"No," I whispered as the last part of the transport disappeared down the road.
That winter was the hardest season I have even lived through. Having no word on Kristiano whereabouts broke me in indescribable ways.
On Christmas Eve, I walked out into the gardens. I stood in the very place I stood almost a half a year earlier when Kristiano had set up that night for me. I ran my hands along the snow covered branches of the trees surrounding the path.
I remember every way he talked. 222Please respect copyright.PENANAzYPhDkY0go
The way he laughed.
The way he smiled.
[3:43]
Suddenly, I heard footsteps behind me.
I turned around to find Kristiano standing a few steps behind me.
I gasp, not being able to breathe for fear of it all being a dream.
"Keirania." He whispers my name.
I run to him as he grabs me and spins me around.
I press my lips against his, finally complete.
Half a year later, we married in the castle courtyard with the whole city looking on.
Him- a gorgeous prince.
Me- a lowly servant.
"Keirania."
I look straight into his gorgeous blue eyes.
"I love you."
