We all know why he has a hook as his right hand and why a certain crocodile follows him?
If you don't then it is about time to tell you the whole story.
Before James Hook grew up and became a fearless and cunning pirate he went to a private school and thus has had high education compared to other pirates. In school he was seen not as the brightest or best in class but average. But what made him different than the others was his courage, sense of fairness and his self-confidence. Other children round him found it alien that he had that as a child and as a teenager while few others where green with envy. At home, in his large mansion, he had further troubles to face. His mother was never there and his father did not know how to show love and affection.
Why he fights Peter Pan is not only to show the others who is the boss of Neverland but out of envy. What Peter Pan accomplishes as a child without education Hook has to endure and work hard to achieve so. Simply like many adults do today in the real world.
What is their common desire between Peter Pan and James Hook? Like any child, to have a loving mother or at least a loving person and to have the upper hand in leading their group. To have the controll not only to manipulate but to remain prepared for unexpected danger and surprises.
Yet Captain Hook envies Peter. With what ease a challenge is confronted and that without education including the admiration of the lost boys that Hook never had.
Alas in the end he never got the similar admiration as he wanted to achieve and more that we dear readers may never know.
