Option 2
I got onto my bike. I hoped it wouldn't be too loud. The adults seemed focused on the fence, so it seemed like I was fine.
But often enough, seeming like something isn't being like something. Scoundrel, the neighborhood stray dog who harassed kids at night, was after me. He started barking.
I peddled faster. Blair's house wasn't far away. Its bright windows were visible from the distance. I turned around. The dog was still after me...and so were all the parents.
The adults didn't run. They walked slow but determined, like mind controlled zombies. "Oh god!" I shouted in shock, peddling as hard as I could. Who knows, Blair might not be safe.
I peddled so fast that I couldn't focus on what was behind me and what was ahead. So the bike fell. "Drat!" I yelled. I couldn't get on it now, that would take too long. I saw Scoundrel behind me, his teeth sharp and piercing, even in the dark night. I ran as fast as I could. But behind him, I saw something much more sinister.
The adults were still following me, and they only walked faster. I screamed, and turned to another block. All the houses I saw had their lights on, like everyone had woken up at once. Yet many driveways were empty, and it seemed like nobody was in the houses. I continued to run, knowing that Scoundrel was right at my feet.
"Kal!" I heard my named yelled. It was Blair. "Follow my voice!" I heard it, and followed. I couldn't see where Blair was, though. "Under the bush!" She yelled. I felt Scoundrel's teeth nip at my ankle. "Gah!"
I dived under the bush, ignoring how painful the thorns were. But as I made it under the bush, I started to realize something. The adults...there was something in front of them I couldn't had seen before. It was these bright green, glowy lights in the air. Every adult's eyes were green, including my mother's. I gasped.
But as soon as I had dove under the bush, everyone stopped looking for me. Even Scoundrel didn't notice I existed anymore. I frowned. What in the world had happened?
I turned around. Blair was right behind me, sitting criss-cross-apple-sauce. She was smiling, and in her pajamas. I didn't know she wore Star Wars ones. Next to her, was a creature. It was also bright green, with yellow eyes. It glowed bright like a star. The creature had two legs and two long arms with six fingers each. It didn't have a mouth or a large neck, but it's head was huge. It was at least as tall as an adult. My eyes widened. An alien. It was as if all my dreams and worst nightmares had came true.
"Alien-" I gasped, not knowing what else to say. He nodded in delight. "I know."
"What's happening?" I asked, hoping she would know. "Why doesn't anyone notice me anymore?" Blair looked at the alien, but it was still focused on me. "We're under a force-field. If you stuck your hand out, everyone would immediately notice you again. But for now, we're safe."
"But I don't really know what's happening. Al here comes from a distant galaxy. His kind are looking for something here, and they're using the adults to do it. Al thinks there's an ancient sword here that can slay his kind, but it can only be wielded by the strongest Earthlings. If we work together, we can find it and save the town."
I frowned. I'm not one of the strongest Earthlings. This won't work. And how can he speak to Al? Blair stared at Al as he curled up and laid down like a sleeping puppy. "This is amazing, Kal." She grinned. "We can have our own quest and defeat the villains, like ET or Star Wars. Our wildest dreams are coming true. Aren't you excited? This is everything we could've wanted in a small town like this!"
I stared at Al, his chest rising and falling as he slept. I knew now that my destiny was unfolding.
Option 1: Grab Blair and escape from Al while he sleeps, and try to solve this issue without the help of an alien.
Option 2: Go on the journey with Blair and Al and find the lost sword
