They didn't have the resources to continue the war path and eventually conquer the whole world. From my understanding, the defeat of the major axis powers(Italy, Germany, Japan) was inevitable. Although Germany was very effective with its blitzkrieg tactics, its unlikely that they could've kept all that land controlled like the way they wanted to for all of time, or atleast until the end of the war. I also doubt that Russia would've fallen completely if Germany took over its capital, Moscow, and while it wasn't impossible, russia would've put up a hell of a fight in order to make sure that the city didn't fall. Russia had millions of men to spare and used its blood in order to stop the germans. Germany was also very hungry for resources(like oil) to keep fueling their war machine and each move for them became riskier for them to do so. It's also unlikely that they would've given up their world conquering goals since it was ingrained in their ideology. They would've invaded Russia no matter what unless they aren't the nazis that are in our timeline. So (in my opinion) it was a matter of time before Russia stormed Germany. Additionally, the U.S., Britain, and its colonies were all also going to invade other strongholds around Germany (like north africa and Sisily) so even if the normandy beach landings failed they would've eventually gotten control of those areas. Italy also couldn't put in as much effort since it spent lots of its effort on helping Franco win the spanish civil war, and had exhausted much of its resources trying to help that country. And since the defeat of Germany was inevitable, so was the defeat for Japan. Japan likely couldn't have steamed through all of China(although it got most of it when it declared war on the U.S.) or fully defeated the U.S. navy. One of the reasons they declared war on the US was to get access to oil and not have the U.S. navy challenge them at that moment(I think). Additionally, the Soviet union still had many men to help steamroll through manchuria and defeat Japan in northern china after the defeat of germany. At the worst, if Japan hadn't surrendered, then the U.S. would be significantly weaker than it was in our timeline since it would have to go through island hopping and suffer thousands of casualties.214Please respect copyright.PENANAIRVT0Qpeq0
