This is chapter 6 from Lexis. I wrote it years ago, but had a good laugh this chapter (the bolded part) when I re-read it.

A woman kicked Lexis to the ground and stabbed her in the chest with a spear. She couldn't see the woman's face, but she knew her. When the woman removed the spear, Lexis grabbed her chest and rolled onto her stomach, crying and gasping.
Her body cringed as she jumped awake, gasping and holding her chest. Her body shook as she sat up. Tears ran down her cheek, she passed her hand quickly at them and looked at Stanton. He was giving her a suspicious look. She got up from the table and headed to the bathroom.
Lexis washed her face several times before looking at her reflection in the mirror.
"That's twice in one day. I must be coming down with something." She said as she ran a hand across her forehead.
A woman's voice over the intercom interrupted her thoughts.
All students, please return to your respective rooms. The second half of the examination will commence soon.
I repeat.
All students, please return to your respective rooms. The second half of the examination will commence soon.
It sounded like one of the lecturers from her room. Lexis slapped her cheeks twice, relaxed, and walked out of the bathroom.
At 3:30, the bell rang, signalling the end of the last exam. The students filed out of the rooms; this time, there were fewer conversations. Some of them looked terrified, others sick, and a few were crying. The last exam was like a walk through Hell.
Lexis was feeling nervous about the exam, but watching the other students around her, she started feeling sick too. God, I hope I passed it. She peered over her shoulder and saw Stanton walking behind her with his head down; he looked really ill, like he was going to collapse.
She stopped and let him walk into her. When she turned to face him, he avoided her eyes. Lexis swore under her breath and chucked him back. He bumped into two others behind him before falling down. He looked up at her, his eyes hot with rage.
"The hell is your problem?!" he shouted, getting to his feet.
Lexis ignored him, turned, and continued walking. I'm gonna regret doing this...
Stanton chased after her, grabbing her shoulder turning her to him he threw his punch at her face, she had barely enough time to deflect it with her hand, the force of his hit slapped her hand against her eye hard. Yep, going to.
The other students around them backed away and watched them fighting. No one made a move to stop them. They kept throwing punches at each other before three lecturers stopped them. The lecturers dragged them to the Malienis' office, both with swollen, bruised faces.
They were sitting on the couch, Mr. Malieni sat facing them, and Mrs. Malieni was making tea. When she'd finished with the tea, she set cups down in front of them all. Sitting next to her husband, she savoured the aroma of the tea before drinking.
"Drink." She ordered Lexis and Stanton.
Her voice was calm; she didn't sound angry or agitated, just calm. Lexis stared at her hard. Her calm demeanour was unnerving. What the frack was with that look earlier?
They all sat in silence, drinking tea, for the next forty minutes. The whole time Mrs. Malieni said nothing, just occasionally smiled at them. Her husband was just as calm as she was, but he didn't smile; he looked the same as when Lexis had first seen him.
When she'd finished her third cup, Mrs. Maleini let out a sigh, looked at the clock, then at her husband.
"I think it's time they went home." She said even calmer than when she'd spoken earlier.
The second Mrs. Malieni spoke, a chill came over Lexis again. She felt something cold stroke her cheek; the voice whispered in her ear again. Lexis.
"Lexis?...Lexis!" Mrs. Malieni called her.
Lexis blinked and looked her in the eyes.
"You were staring at me blankly. Did you hear what I said? "
"...."
"Your exam results should be up; do check them before you leave."
"...Yeah."
Stanton Charles – Fail
...
Lexis Francis – Pass
Lexis looked at Stanton; she thought she might feel sorry for the guy, but all she felt was joy. Utter happiness. I don't think I've ever felt this free. She thought looking back at the board.
"Ready?" Mr. Malieni asked, standing behind them.
"Yeah." Lexis answered, turning to him.
I guess attempting to 'cheer' him up was pointless. She thought glancing back at Stanton.
The ride back to the town was quiet. No one spoke; Stanton sat staring at his lap; Mr. Malieni kept his eyes on the road; and Lexis was lost in the passing scenery. When they passed the welcome sign to the town, Lexis spoke.
"Can we be on campus before our year starts?"
"What do you mean?" Mr. Malieni asked, looking into the mirror.
"School starts in April; I mean, like, in December. Can we be on campus then?"
"No, there'll still be students in the dorms who haven't finished school yet. Two weeks before school starts is when you need to be there."
"Ok." Great, I have to find somewhere to stay and something to occupy my time. Might as well go looking for him.
Mr. Malieni dropped them off at the school, where Katie and a few other seniors were waiting for Stanton. The guy moved like he was undead; Lexis got out of the car, then immediately got back in.
"Mind dropping me off in the centre of town?" she asked, looking at the crowd on the steps.
"Why?"
"I don't have the energy to run from that mob. Plus, I've got external exams soon, I don't want to miss them because I'm hospitalised. Drive."
After Mr. Malieni dropped her off in town, Lexis sat down on one of the benches. Moments after she sat down, three kittens jumped up on the bench and sat staring at her. She patted their heads, then dipped into her bag and pulled out three cans of tuna. She opened the cans and lined them up on the bench for the kittens.
A small animal rubbed itself in and out of her feet. When she looked down, she saw the kittens' mother. She bent down and grabbed the cat by the scruff of the neck and held it up to her face. The animal made a failed attempt at pleading before Lexis dropped it behind the bench.
Some time after, a dazed Stanton walked past, staring at the pavement. He looked at Lexis, then turned and went on his way.
Serves you right prick
